DIY alternator belt change

car used for explaination is a corolla . engine is 4age. a set of pics will follow showing how the whole process of alternator belt installation takes place.. for yr DIY or knowledge when you will consult yr mechanic for similar task.

first we jacked up the car, remove wheel, then started removing the side shield.

taking out the shield and loosening a/c belt tensioner, to remove a/c belt as alternator belt goes on inside path

the tools. most important is having the right tools otherwise simple tasks turn into misery

getting the belt on pullies

putting tension by moving alternator on its slider bolt,, note the idle set controller comes right on the same path where alternator is,, special care is needed when adjusting the alternator with metal rod, one slip and it will hit the black plastic controller breaking that to pieces, as yr trying with force to tension the alternator belt

making sure the pullies all in the belt..

making sure a/c belt is in order before tightening it up

a/c belt tensioner pully.. tighten it before locking it in its position by screwing the nut back

tighten the pulley nut

engine running , belts working fine ......

put back the shield / wheel and lets go for a test run

here is an interesting part, after 10 minutes of drive,, belts started squeek sound.. i thought i spray some wd40 on pully.. later someone suggested first use a cloth washing soap.. wet and rub it on the belt.. the sound will go away.. so on my next stop i buy a soap bar, and squeeze it to get to the belt..

i opened the bonet after a long time,, just noticed the whole thing in there needs a good wash,, and leak spotted on master cylinder of clutch as the bottle was full the dot3 ,, dang! this maintance stuff never ends.

alternator belt is squeeking again tonight along with a/c belt actually i use a/c with heater and squeek sound too annonying especially when u full turn steering to any side that's when power/st puts pressure on belts i think he didnt thighten em enough

Alternator is the charging system to maintain the charge in the car's battery to provide electric energy while engine is running.
The alternator is driven by a belt that is powered by the rotation of the engine. depending on the engine there could be one belt for all the purposes or more than one for different pupose like Fan, Alternator, Drive, Power Steering, A/C....... yara yara
....
