DIY: Car Wiring (help required)

i have datsun 120y and now a days i m having some problems with it. Its battery gets low in a couple of days. i have got it checked by some electricians and all of them said that there is no current leakage, and the alternator is also working well. now i have decided to change its wiring. will it help in this regard.
also tell me does ready made car wiring is available in market i.e. main wires of dash.

please give ur suggestions.

do you understand electronics?
if yes it will help you out. you will need a multi meter to check the voltages and AC DC, positive negative of it.
better to throw out the whole wiring out of your car
get good guage wires and relays fix this problem by simple wiring yourself.

understanding previous and fixing will make you grey haired

this is the worst problem for ordinary person and easiest problem for wise ppl... do this yourself, its an old datsun .. have nothing to loose

did you checked the battey, because its efficiency decrease in winter season. after that according to beeberg i would recomend the same

can u tell me the precise values of voltages when the engine is switched off and when it is running.
or can anyone refer me to some reading materials.

and also tell me from where i can get a bettery charger like the electricians have for charging the batteries.

and i still have one question. is the wiring module available in market. i.e the main wire containg the sockets? i think there are no connectors in the specialize wiring module. where as if i install them manually then there will be connections and i dont want them

If there is no leakage, there is no point in replacing the whole wiring. I would presume it a alternator or charging regulator problem. In 120Y I guess they are saperate. In later models they started integrating them into the alternator itself. So get them chect these two first and go for wiring replacement later.

yea u r right, they are seperate in datsun. can i replace them with a new model (integrated regulator with alternator)?

secondly tell me whether the new alternators have automatic regulators (do they adjust the voltage levels or they have fixed voltage levels.

anyways... your problem seems to be more related to battery or the charging system... the first tool u need is a digital multimeter... use that to check current leak and charging of battery

as for reference voltages... normal with engine off the voltage should be not less than 12V

while engine running on reasonable RPM.... it should be 13.5-14v... if the voltage is over 15v.... its overcharging.

if its like that charging is ok.

btw whats the age of ur battery.... they tend to become weak and lose charge.... and also dont forget it can also the the starter motor (self) not running properly coz of carbon wear etc

as far as battery chargers are concerned... visit Hall Road in lahore... you will find many get a small one for home use only

i'll try to get a DMM as soon as possible. tell me one more thing. if i want to replace the old alternator and regulator with a new one, which is the best possible choice?

because i think that alternator is not functioning properly as the lights get dim when the engine is idling.

if the lights get dim on idle... this means that the battery is too weak to support a bit of current when on idle.... at idle there is usually no charging... charging starts a a certain RPM above idle... check ur battery

if you drive in the evening with lights on... you may hav starting problem next morning... indicating battery problem for sure... go to some battery wala... ask him to check all cells gravity.... chances are one of the cells might be dead!

regular 12 volt battery culd never go to 15v no matter how much u over charge it..

he is talking about the voltage when engine is running, alternator has to produce more voltage than the battery voltage (12V) in order to charge it.

anyways can anyone tell me that i want to replace the alternator and regulator (they are seperate in datsun 120y) with some new alternator with inbuilt regulator. can i do it?
