DIY-Changing Cabin Filter Corolla 09-10

Was thinking for many days since the onset of summers to check and change (if required) the cabin/AC filter of my car, but due to unscheduled commitments, was unable to do so.

Today I thought of doing it and then had an idea that as the summers have started for everybody, so lets remind and guide everyone to change the filter, and enjoy the best out of their rides.

Criticism, guidance and additions are welcome..

This is the subject shape corolla (09-10) we are talking about

It has got a pair of glove-boxes and during this process, we shall concentrate on the lower one..

Open the lower glove compartment and press it gently from both the sides to disengage the plastic hinges.. Beware not to use excessive or brute force, else you break it..

Also remember to disengage the support (black cylindrical structure visible on the left side of my finger in the second picture below) which controls the speed of the opening and closing and prevents it from jerky openings.

Now hold the lid with both your hands and pull it outwards with application of force on both left and right alternatively to disengage its clips from the holders at the bottom.

After the removal of the lid, the compartment would look somewhat like this

Now the securing lid of the filter is visible along with the evaporator compartment of the AC..

Unlock the clip on the side and pull it backwards to open it..

Gently pull out the filter without dropping any of the trash lying over it..

Here lies the scum of the earth..

And then we complain that there is no air throw out of the vents..

Clean the housing, the securing lid and the surroundings with a clean cloth..

The new filter, bought and brought..

This is the only part that hurt a little.. But after all you have to maintain it and feed it with genuine accessories, if you want it to survive as long as you do..

Don't push the filter all the way into the slot, it would remain a few millimetres out of it as you can see that there is some hollow space in the securing lid for that..

i was getting the same for Vitz for Rs3600 i guess the price was justified then. its going tobe an imported item.

Btw nyc DIY would help alot of Corolla owners, but seeing the cost involved many people might not bother doing it.

For such people a cheap replicas are also avalible, jst imagine what do we breath in the airconditioned cars without these, i think this corolla is the first Pakistani car to offer such a cabin filter.

i did a DIY vitz version of this a while back,... i'm glad more and more people are doing such DIYs so that they may gain some experience and save some cash for what i think is a simple job.

I've been waiting for a thread like this to start!
I thought of the exact same thing about my brand new Civic oriel but when i opened the cabin filter tray it was EMPTY!!!

Has ANYONE else with the new civic found the cabin filter to be missing?
Or has Honda stopped giving the filter and leave the tray empty?

i got the idea of opening up my cars cabin filter tray and cleaning it from your post only!
it was in the Vitz thread from a few years ago i think.
lets just hope Honda forget to put in my car and i can claim it under warranty...if NOT then i'll simply have to dish out a few grands and buy one!
