DIY injector Cleaning

There was no problem with the injectors except that while cruising at high speeds or if you give full throttle you could feel slight jerks/hesitation (dont know what to call it.) So I thought maybe it is the injectors.
The DIY is in the 2nd post.

BEFORE AND AFTER:

1. Release the fuel pressure by loosening the nut on fuel filter.
2. Unscrew the fuel rail and just pull it out.
   
   
   This is how dirty they were.

3. Remove the rubber seals/ O rings etc dont use any solvent on them. As I am going to reuse them. Also remove the small filters and wash them SEPERATELY or they will get more DIRTY.

4. I used a toothbrush thinner and petrol to clean. (Not sure how safe thinner is!)

5. Get a container preferably metal or glass and put solvent in it. close the opening/ending of injectors and put them in the solvent. Leave them in for some time 5-15 mins so that the gunk loosens then take them out and clean with tooth brush.
   Repeat until you get the desired cleanliness.
   Then dry them using dry clean cloth and/or compressed air.(I blew air using my mouth)

After I was finished the transparent thinner got black.

1. Next step is to clean the inside of the injectors.
   For this you need DC supply. I used 6.5 Volts to be safe. Attach the two wires to the two terminals on the injector, with a switch in between.
   
   

I had a 50cc syringe that fitted so I used it.

IMP: BE SURE TO WEAR SOME EYE PROTECTION
Now here is what you need to do.
You apply pressure on the syringe(filled with solvent) while closing the switch in PULSES. Like On-Off-On-Off.
Make sure to use clean solvent or you will do more harm than good.

I Tried A Bit Diff Way ......!! A Surely Good DIY

Things To Keep In Mind.....Always Use 6v Supply For Operating Injectors Manually.....(During Cleaning)

12v Constant For Longer duration Can Damage Injector Coil....

Use Injector Cleaner Instead Of Thinner........Thinner Can Damage Parts.....!!

Always Use New O-rings And spacer Seals after Cleaning Injectors....!

Replace Fuel Filter Immediately And Check Your Fuel Pump Along With Fuel Tank If You Find Injectors All Dirty And Clogged.....!
There Can Be Rust Or Bad Petrol Inn There.....! That Need To Be Flushed

-- I did injectot cleaning of 2 cars yesterday (my swift and neighbours EK wagon) .. I was about to post DIY then the search brought me here ... here is what i have to contribute

--- use "carb cleaner" for the cleaning of injectors
--- removing o rings or using chemical on them will deshape or loosen the ring; eitherway use slight grease coating, to get optimum sealing and keep the rubber soft (personally i won't recommend removing the o rings)

thinner can attack and melt some kinds of plastics - be careful with it. however the best way I found is a sonic bath and then a calibration bench to test leakage too.

there is a workshop in lahore that charges 2000 rupees for ultrasonic cleaning,throttle body service and obd scan. best value for money imo, toyota injector cleaner costs around 1500, so not a bad deal

Well i have spare fuel pump thinking when i would do such DIY I would Pull the rail out and connect pump with cleaner as pump reservoir and it should do the job i guess. I would not worry running injector cleaner into fuel rail and wont worry about O rings because i would get new ones anyway provided they are easy to find

ultrasonic bath - its also used to clean jewelry.

That way you can justify the expense when your Mrs asks why in the world are you spending this money.. You can clean her jewelry in it.
