DIY: Rear Defogger Repair ( honda city )

very low chances of finding it at normal household electronic shops.

since all the emails were from lahore, i dont know whats the college road equivalent there. you will have to look at places where people sell/repair electronic boards, integrated chips, etc to college students,

college road equivalent is HALL raod , its much bigger, it will be definitely available there

guys lilttle bit of help needed,

i just successfully attached thimble to the windscreen which was broken in my city 2k, did it work only morning will answer this, the light on switch tuns on when it is tuned into on position, and herez what i wanna know driver side connector shows 10.87 DC volts when defogger switched tuned on and none when its off, means its good there, this one i connected just now, passenger side shows no voltage when grounded with body, but when both connectors are coupled to a volt meter it shows same 10.90 reading, which means passenger side is negative of the defogger?

Since negative terminal of battery is connected to car body so it must be nagative (the left side one). Maybe someone else can guide u better.
I just got a voltmeter today and tomorrow i will check which lines are broken from where, cause apparently everything seems fine.

mera bhi yahee khayal hai, googled some diagrams of defoggers and it seems like everything is in place to have a launch,
you got urself a voltmeter or multimeter, if multimeter which one and for how much?

I think the multimeter is a super set of voltmeter and ammeter. I got the voltmeter but i did not purchase it, borrowed it from a friend. I can ask him the price of the device.

for minor scratches why dont u try soldering? i had minor scratched on a pcb i once bought and i fixed it by using a solder between the two broken pieces. this however works only on hairline scratches on which u can jump the solder from one side to other. for larger gaps, soldering a thin wire between the gaps should work i guess.

Bravo, my defogger didnt worked
herez my investigationregarding the issue which is conducted upon failure

• connection made was fine, no problem in that
• its verified that driver side connector is +ve and other is -ve, this is achieved by disconnecting both and grounding each one with multimeter, driver side gives 12 volts direct and passenger side zero volts, this is furhter verified by conecting two connectors via voltmeter as 12 volts is reading and right side also gives continuety with body, so no wiring issue and thas one good news
• disconnected both connectors try to catch continuety between the two terminals of defogger on screen it failed
• all lines appear to fine without any breakage then why no continuety??????
• on really close inspection came to know that all lines are badly burnt due to over heating or what ever, its carbon spots all over the lines, or in other words lines that i saw is like half copper and half carbon,

so looks like end of story here, but i wanna give my idea of cooper adhesive tape a shot, i dont mind if i put up 4 or 5 lines success fully which clears my view of back no matter even if look little odd.

sir g you are from pindi, can you verify availability of copper adhesive tape from colleage road or from any other location???

i do visit college road from time to time and will check it. but there is an issue here which i need to be clarified...

from what i understand, these defogger lines offer some resistance to the flow of current which heats them up and thus removes the fog from the screen. but if we replace the defogger lines with copper tape, it will short out the positive and negative terminals and cause the battery to drain out. isnt it so?

making small repairs on the defoggers is ok but making them from zero is i think not advisable...

maybe some minor repairs can be made with a soft pencil. i have seen it being done to short out some terminals for overclocking the processors.

guys today i found that pen copper pen but it was too expensive.... Rs 3000. i am thinking to use copper wire as my defogger lines are broken in some lines or may be burnt as said by mahmood....

From where did u find it ?
Also does no one has any friends or relatives coming from US or Europe side ? There are defogger repair kits available outside and last time i checked they were as low as 6 to 10 dollars.
