Do i need to polish my new car before wax it or not?

I bought Meguiars wash and ultimate wax for my new honda civic (white), i have two questions:

1. how often one shall wax? as its written on meguiars website that 3/4 times (is it max or min)??

2. Do i need to polish my car first or no need to polish the new car and only wash and wax??

Zero need for any "polish". Sometimes they misuse the word polish here in Pakistan. Polish is for old/faded/scratched/dulled paint, it uses microABRASIVES to bring out a shine.

Wax is just a layer on top of your paint to protect it.

Do NOT use any polish on your new car with new paint, its pointless, should already be shiny, don't think you can make something look "better than new". But I would wax it, but not at a set interval. Some good waxes can last a year (but they are harder to apply and remove) and some only last a few weeks. As long as the water on the paint beads and doesn't sleep in your car like a blanket, the wax is intact. So wax as often as needed.

Wash with the shampoo.
Prep your base once by ultimate polish or dodo lime prime.
No need to polish for 3-4 months now.

Wash weekly with your shampoo and give a detailer wipe if you wish. Wax every two weeks. Do post pics in the detailing thread!

No WAX lasts upto a year.
If you prep your base properly- clay, pre-wax cleanser, then a premium quality sealant may last upto one year like Chemical Guys Jet Seal 109.
You will also have to wash with a wax safe shampoo like dodo juice, meguiars ultimate wash and wax or turtle ice wash (weekly) and give a detailer wipe atleast once in two weeks.

Best waxes dont have to be in paste form. E.g- Pinnacle liquid soveran wax is one of the best on light colours.

The life of a wax doesnt depend on its form (liquid or paste). Paint sealants are usually in liquid form like klasse, wolfgang, chemical guys,etc.

Spray waxes are another thing all together. They arent built for durability but they are designed to boost the colours in between washes.

Lastly, why make buffing hard for yourself? Apply it nice and thin, out of direct sunlight and buff off as recommended by the manufacturer.
Letting the wax cake on will only make it stubborn during removal.
Tip- a light mist of detailer spray aids wax removal.

You're right about the fact that the number of washes makes a direct impact on the life of the wax coat but you can always maximise it by using good quality wax safe shampoos and top up with spray wax. Spray waxes actually form a sacrificial layer on top of the wax coat, making the wax itself last longer.

buy a big container of proper car shampoo - something that has some wax blended with alcohol in it, it wont strip it out. There is a product called no.7 truckwash. Its a very oldschool car wash, my father told me about it (its that old)

it really cleans nicely and does not hurt the wax job if used moderately.

a wash a week is about good enough.

Dear Fellow Pak Wheelers

after the expert advice on Saturday I started my first detailing without taking breakfast (so not to become lazy), washed my civic with Meguiars gold wash with two pots theory advised by detailing gurus here, after that wipe the water with yellow water magnet cloth (which seems to be iron magnet instead water magnet as its sticky to car), after that applied panel by panel the meguiars ultimate wax and rubbed it.

telling the story is easy but after one day i am having pain to my bi/ tri ceps and "luck", detailing really needs an age limit

my questions to gurus are:

1. i am not getting the anticipated shine i was expecting? is it becuase i did something wrong? or need another quick layer?

2. i was unable to remove the water spots from white colour? which cloth (brand) is good and easy to remove water?

3. is any other shiner/ product you suggest apart from ult wax?

I use kenco micro fiber cloth bought from hyperstar and its works really well in absorbing water and avoiding water marks. I have white swift and mothers wash n wax does awesome job with step3 ...its a one month old car btw

Washing and waxing togather is a tough job no wonder you have pains. I also have white oriel 2014 and I also use meguairs ultimate paste wax so looking from the pics you have posted this is the best result you will get. Its because of the white color it wont have deep gloss of dark colours. About waxing interval you will have to judge for yourself. As long as water beads over the surface your wax is there working.
