Does ECO Mode in Corolla actually work or is it mostly marketing by Toyota?

This eco mode light is not new, if anyone recalls the ancient charade g11 bianca, they had this too as a green light in between speedo and rpm

It was triggered by a small vacuum pod that referenced the airbox and manifold, it would trigger if the speedo needle was above zero and there was 17 inches or higher in of mercury in the manifold.

On older benz and bmw this was a needle provided as a vacuum gauge called economy gauge, on older cressida the whole rpm meter was replaced with a vacuum gauge

All doing same purpose

For corolla, its placebo only

So I think it has nothing to do with being turned on or off, more like a psychological thing.

I also think it the same way about Corolla that it's nothing more than a placebo, because especially on long routes I find no difference whether it's turned on or off, rather I get better mileage while it being turned off. Maybe just a mind thing, but I'm telling you what I experienced from the last 3-4 long route journeys.

I think that for eco mode there must be a button beside gearbox where Grande sports button is placed.
That button is not given in any pkdm variant. The eco indication in meter is just a gimmick.

That's my whole point of asking this question in the first place that whether it's an indicator or a Mode, whether it will do any good or just a gimmick to attract customers for being more fuel-efficient cars, and now you've answered it being nothing more than a gimmick

The eco mode with button offered in this Corolla functions like the ECO mode in Pkdm civic. Unfortunately in pkdm corolla it is not a mode, just a gimmick or indication.

Not sure about Corolla but does work in my 2015 vitz. I have noticed a difference of 2-3 km/litre difference on same route and same driving style.

Okay, now got your point, but I also own a Civic 9th generation that has an ECO Mode button but even in that car, fuel efficiency is actually no different whether it's turned on or off.
Based on my experience (I may be wrong) with especially Corolla and Civic PKDM, I think these ECO modes or indicators are nothing more than just a gimmick to play with the psychology of the customers and believe me with these ECO modes and indicators turned off, you can get better fuel average being driving with a relaxed mind and not looking at the instrument cluster of your car for the ECO light.
