Most automotive manufacturers use Short Range Radar (SRR) with milimiter wave together with Ultrasonic Sound Sensor (USS) in the range of 40 to 250 kHz using reflected echo for, lane departure assist/warnings, auto headlight feature, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and collision detection/avoidance.
Only Tesla is shifting to Visual Range cameras for most of their driving aid features (Autonomous driving) as they have excelled in the sampling techniques and further reserch is continued for frequency domain conversion of visual samples for obstacle detection they have discontinued the USS usage. During this the Summon feature in some models is being disabled temporarily where the USS is not offered.
