next best here would the ribbon tape as Xufiqar mentioned used in glass work or samad bond

then the tape A/C shops use

then duct tape

there is some wax applied where there are joints in the metal. our honda city is silver coloured and the wax is yellow so it is easily noticeable. i showed the wax to a denter at suzuki and asked what do i do when this wears out. he said safed silicone laga lo

the yellow wax is actually body cavity wax. Make some yourself. Do not apply silicone RTV as it bleeds vinegar during curing. Vinegar is acetic acid which can corrode the metal. The wax is applied to inner surfaces to ensure that the condensing moisture can bead up and slide off rather than linger around and start rust etc.

To make sure you dont get a water trap going on, make 100% sure the door lower edges dont have dirt lodged into them which can become mud, also make sure the drains are open. If you cannot find cavity wax then at least use a thick candle and rub it on the required surface.

Dont mistake the adhesive caulking used to stick the bonnet frame to the skin for wax. The body cavity wax will scrape off like candle wax. The adhesive will not.

So finally on 17th nov, I did this:

used the "kachi rubber" tape also known as kork cape among the AC parts shops.

only shot two pics, it was getting late and I had one "trouble" door on which I experimented a few months ago using a HOT GLUE GUN! It didn't work for keeping the plastic sheet in place, instead the sheet came and the glue was now happily married to the door. I knew this is going to be messy and damn it was. It still is actually, I haven't got time to remove the from the door to apply the kork tape and paste the plastic sheet.

Anyways, after I was done with the three remaining doors, I used a powerful hair dryer which helped in seating the plastic sheet with the tape well and also made it more "flexible" in the "pockets" or whatever they should be called.

Things to consider before you're up for this job:

1 - the surface where you're going to stick the kork tape should be clean, CLEAAAANNNN. both the door and the plastic sheet
2 - if you don't want to work too hard on the project, get a "thinner / lighter" plastic sheet. I used quite a thick one and it was a trouble setting it up on the kork tape and keeping it stuck there. But the hair dryer trick helped a lot
3 - For mehran specially, get better door clips before you start removing the door card, the tape is thick and the old clips if already bad will not work when seating the door card again

And now I need tips on how to remove the silicone adhesive from my front left door! I'm guessing its going to be a lot of elbow grease but some solvent that can loosen up that stuff would be helpful. Also I'm using a plastic scrapper, would that be enough?

Good job syncview, that looks like a Rolls Royce Quality job. I also use the hairdryer technique to make the rubber tape melty and sticky to really grab the plastic and to form depressions to allow speakers and pockets to seat.

You could have also cut the tape into narrower pieces to make it nearly factory. and you only need it on the outside perimeter as the door card will keep it pressed against the door from the mid.

In a Mehran you also need to do this on the tailgate.

Can you do me a favor - next time when some "cheeta qism ka laack aur sheesha mechanic" removes the card to work on the door latch and window - please note verbatim what he says about this plastic sheet.

Yeah, tailgate also done, only the front left door remaining because of stupid hot silicone glue gun experiment. Its a PITA to remove and the kork tape won't stick till its there.

I'm afraid you'll get the verbatim quote soon as I will be "emptying" the interior for some floor work ie derust, zinc oxide etc. at the very same time I'll get the door's dismantled to treat rust at the drain holes. I remember a denter saying something along the lines of the sheet being useless and is a time waster because it makes it difficult to access the locks and door opening mechanism, he was the very same denter who removed the sheets in the first place but when I got to know it, it was very late.

also regarding the tape cut in half, the tape you see on these doors is already half the width of the tape - the idea to cut the tape in the three parts popped up in mind when I was about to do the tailgate.. so the tailgate and the rear left door have the tapes cut in three parts of the width making it neater. I'm sure the last remaining door will be neatest once I manage to remove the damned silicone

yep waxoyl is a brand of body cavity wax.

the most ancient one is cosmoline (aka the most tough, rough beard)

the british one is waxoyl (cup of tea gentleman type)

the norwegian one is noxudol (fancy super thin type that creeps everywhere and drips for months even through welds)

Aslam u alikum,
was searching for vapor barrier sheet (i am planning to get it for my car doors) and landed here on this thread...
i have read it all and took following things (mental notes) to ponder...
1: get a sticky "kachi rubber ke dori" from some A/C wala
2: get a plastic sheet (not too thick, will be easy to handle)
3: apply the 'kachi rubber' on boundries of the door (where the sheet is going to rest) and dont have to apply it in the middle as @xulfiqar bhai said 'the plastic door panel will hold it from the mid'

4: and traaa!! work done....
correct me if i am wrong and @syncview can u please be kind enough to suggest me some tips before starting the work and points to be kept in mind while doing this particular job...
