Pretty much everything and everyone is out of descent in our beloved country. I keep praying things change but I don't know if I'll live to see those changes. I have been driving the last 6 years and extremely non-aggressive driver, by the rules guy, don't even honk much and don't get angry easily either. I simply ignore the stupidity around me.
High beams/bad lighting:
This does not need any further explanation.
Bike Riders:
So many cases... They love going to the left. Almost always ignoring your turn signals even if you set one a kilometer ago.
I mean c'mon, I take a U-turn and intend to park a few meters ahead on the left. As soon as I do a U-turn, I turn on the left indicator and check no one's to my left and no one was until a bike came out from dirt track, used as shortcut by the same, as soon as I turned. I did notice him in the last second so I brake and he's going all nuts that I almost killed him. Seriously?
Then one almost cost me my car's front mirror. I am going normal speed at night, low beams, its a populated area/road but alas, no street lights. I see No hazards. I notice two riders on bike waiting on a U-turn, its a double road but don't count it as double because one lane is always occupied. So I adjust accordingly, keeping 3-4 ft from the bike's back tires. The bike itself is out of my lane but I still maintain such distance if I can to be safe and only a few feet left to the U-turn's position, I go high-beam as no car was coming from front or in front of me and wanted to see if any pedestrians were coming up and just then I see a big iron rod with the guy riding on the back of the bike. Too late, the iron rod (its 2 inch wide/1 inch thick usually and 8-10 ft length) hit top of the front bumper just inches from the hood and right headlight, sprung up and hit the road when my car passed... Thankfully no car was immediately behind me or the bike's front. Both bikers were okay too, I think one of them if not both must have sh*t themselves seeing how they reacted.
A bike is not meant to carry LOADS let alone something like that which can't be seen in the dark. At least tie a white cloth or shopper to such a hazard but oh well.
Shortcut Takers/Time Savers:
Single lane highway. You come across the TIME SAVERS that will be coming opposite to you, overtaking another vehicle and they simply won't stop, instead give you high-beams to just swirl into the crops to your left. Never mind you get killed.
Also: There's a freaking U-turn every few meters on Pakistani roads esp. within city but no. THEY HAVE to come in your lane in opposite direction. THEIR time must be precious than everyone else's I suppose? and they have the audacity to stare at you if you don't give them way. And then there's this lot: I give way to a vehicle on a U-turn so he can make it and it turns out to be the TIME SAVER who isn't actually making a U-turn, rather gunning for the opposite direction. Makes you think if you should be giving people way on U-turns or not but well, its built-in, can't be changed.
Second category Time Savers:
They just gun it and come out side roads/streets fingers crossed and hoping no one slams into them. Yes, THEY come speeding out of the sides and will wait for you to use your brakes. Or even if they do brake, it will be only after all of their vehicle is out of the street. One such mental gunned it so hard, it went up on the opposite foot path, thankfully missing my rear bumper by inches. No, I did not go check on that car or the driver. What can I say? I am a terrible person.
The Honkers:
Oh they simply love to honk. This is probably the one of two things on road that pisses me off instantly and that is when you can't move ahead due to traffic or other reason not in your control and the driver behind keeps honking. I actually encountered a few who would honk while I waited at a freaking RED signal... I think I pointed to them to go around a few times but with the middle finger, doubt anyone noticed that.
A$$-kissers:
They must love kissing a$$e$ because they simply love driving inches behind you. A taxi walla hit me once and blamed his brakes. The repair cost me 5000 Rupees and yeah, I simply let the guy go. What can I say? I am such a terrible person.
Honorable mentions that probably should be on top of the list but I am done with my rant:
- Pedestrians
- Transport vehicles/Hiaces to be exact
- Heavy Duty Vehicles/Trucks/Dumpers/Tankers
- Those who over take wrongly but signal you instead, you have to go off road
- Old aged drivers who have no patience and a lot of temper
- The road mere baap ki hai types
- Overloading
- Etc.
- Etc.
May Allah guide us all to behave decently, by the book while driving as well as generally in our lives. Only then shall this country prosper, Insha'Allah someday...
