Effect of wider tyre on fuel Consumptiom

Sorry if its a repeat topic but couldnt find anything on Pakwheels.
What do reckon? for example
i went from 185/65R14 Dunlop Eco to 215/45R17 Firestone supercats.
Do u think the fuel efficieny would decrease?? in other words the engine would consume more fuel.

You won't notice a huge difference...

Offcourse there can be noticable affect on consumption. Apart from consumption, You will notice slower acceleration, stiffier ride quality, harder steering and even poor braking. All this is sacrificed for looks.

Ur car will drink more petrol, accelerate slower, become harder.

wider tyres means bigger contact patch, which means more friction hence greater fuel consumption

Wider tyres means more rubber will be in contact with the road...means thre will b more friction for that ur ride needs more power to move...for more power it will consume more petrol...In simple words "YES" but that will not b much noticable. And as mentioned by a member above ul feel harder steering, ul feel even small jerks & bumps, wear n tear of ur suspension will b bit early with wider tyres.

There will be a very minute difference in fuel consumption as a wider tire means more contact with the road and more rolling friction. This difference however, will be unnoticeable.
