EV do have mechanical maintenance, a car is more than just an engine, you have an entire steer axle and drive axle and the whole vehicle is suspended by something called suspension. They do wear out/break and do require maintenance - just like all cars ever built, so please stop drinking the koolaid.
EVs are hopeless in Pakistan as PK is not even remotely setup to use such cars, do you see any way shape or form to supply enough electricity to charge up these vehicles? Your generating units and the entire supply grid is 50 years in the past.
Do your fire fighting and paramedic crews have equipment and training to rescue people from an electric car?
do you have a taxation infrastructure that can charge vehicle passageway tax on road cars that do not use hydrocarbon fuel. Do you have a transport regulation code that can dictate/regulate the safety of all road users - (e.g. smashing an accelerating nissan leaf or tesla 3 or S at 100 km/h into a qingqi ricksha with exposed passenger seating)
So as capsat said - before actually advocating the use EV and other such tech, please make sure that you can lay out an infrastructure for it first. We are still trying to sort out providing clean drinking water and basic education to the common citizen of the country.
Transport investment should be done on railways and mass movement - km for km railways are the cheapest mode of transport when comparing fuel load burn per ton of cargo. The system is already there - why not shine it up to unclog the god damned roadways in pk from the cancer of illegal off road obsolete and overloaded trucks being used on your highways and city centers - which in turn actually are damaging the most as they are literally untuned, unfiltered and have zero safety gear (even the brakes on such have no govt regulation).
So unless anything is prepared - please prepare to fail with the onset of EVs in Pakistan. And when that happens I will make sure in my capacity to show the world how stupid we as collective are..
