Electric Rod in a Gas Geyser?

Today i was looking for an electric water heater as sui gas is almost shut off in our area and gas geyser is not working. One plumber advised me to get an electric rod fitted in the gas geyser instead of buying an electric water heater. This way, the geyser will work on both sources i.e, when gas is available it will work on gas otherwise on electricity
I wonder is this a good solution ?

Electric rod will heat non stop.waste of elec n energy.y not a proper element meant for geasers.thr r geasers in market with dual function electric n gas both.i am sure thr must b a right way to convert urs as well

The electric rods being fitted in geysers have thermostat with them and shut off electricty when the desired temperature of water is achieved.
