Engine Flush - Is it wise to have it?

Hi Folks,
Is it wise to go for engine flush? and if yes, should it be done using lose oil (local) or do we have any good engine flush liquids availabale too.

My mechanic told me the regular process that he follows i.e. to drain the used oil and put 2 liters of lose (local oil) in the car and start the engine for a few mins and then drain it too.

My Qs are:

and is it effective???

it wont flush if u start the engine for a few mins and then drain it too. use a good oil instead of local, use it for abt 1000-1500 km then again change, it might help.
Try using Toyota Engine Oil, its a good one can be used for both Diesel and Petrol versions.

Please avoid using of any types of engine flush oil,it is very harmful to engine,it is better to change the engine oil & filter intime rather than to flush it.
Always use quality product.

i disagree...if u use a quality engine flush like wurth which costs around 900rs a can n its german made ho hee nai sakta that it causes damage likun yeh b nai keh bas banda flush peh flush karta jai engine! id even open a topic regardin engine flushing search for that ul find alot of info in that topic..

Guys, my friend has a 2002 Vti M/T with 130k km and driven only on petrol, in pindi. But his last oil change was in January 2009 at 113k (driven 17k on 20W-50 Shell oil).
I advised him to flush the engine, is this the right decision? And which engine flush solution is best- and availability/cost? Any tips on procedure?

this is purely my personal understanding. flushing is useless.
its better to go for an early oil change for multiple times. flushing is a locally invented treatement that was initially started for diesel engines.

plus I strongly suggest not to go for it with diesel mixed with petrol, it will decay your gasket.

Yes, early oil changes is unparalleled, but when you dont (for wahtever reason) change the oil for 17,000km, something needs to be done!
And even if you regularly change the oil, sludge/dirt does accumulate more or less. Thats inevitable.

As the engine wears down there is sludge and other deposits on moving parts and flushing the engine with some detergent type agent or oil reduces these deposits which inturn increase play or gaps ... net result an old engine when flushed reduces life and newer one say upto 40-50k mileage get a better effect ... read this theory a long time back somewhere ...

seafoam is the only way go dude.....flushing the engine is kind of useless but using seafoam through ur vacuum port via intake will work the best and will kill alot of carbon deposits in ur engine u will see some serious smoke coming out of your exhaust after u put seafoam in but thats normal....look at this video YouTube - Seafoam smoke show B5 Audi A4 1.8T

man toyota Motor Oil in the same as Caltex Havoline cd 20w50.

let me tell u steps to flush ur engine....

1. loosen ur oil drain plug and drain the old oil and tight it again.
2. now get 2 litre diesel fuel and mix 1 litre new clean engine oil in it and pour into the engine and tight the oil filler cap.
3. now start the engine and leave it started for atleast half an hour. during this time, after every 5 mins, accelerate the engine to 2500 to 3000 rpms.
4. after the time completes, stop the engine and drain the flushed oil and replace the oil filter with the new one and now use the new oil.
   and fill it upto the mark.........

thats it....

you expect that the fuel concotion you just made will actually clean an engine. I would say it would seriously harm your main bearings - using ATF of max 30% mixture makes some sense but using diesel fuel as half lubricant is just asking to get kicked.

bro i hav practiclaly done it three times on my civic and hav got positive results, thats y i hav suggested to others. For everything,firstly i do experiment on my own car, if i get positive results, then i forward it otherwise i use to forget it...........

damn - whats your oil pressure after the procedure. I check with a thermosensor in the dipstick tube and pressure gauge on the oil pressure switch port,

temperature = 110 to 120 degrees celcius
pressure = 1.8 bar - 1986 Honda Accord with a great great great number of kms

Following automakers DO NOT recommend Engine or Transmission flush:

• GM
• Chrysler
• Ford
• Nissan
• Volvo
• Honda
• Mitsubishi

This information is obtained directly from these automakers. You are welcome to call them directly or send them an email to confirm it.

When I contacted Toyota, they didn't have an official recommendation but their dealer maintenance facilities will not perform these procedures.

The reason for why not is that there are very narrow channels and one-way valves in modern engines and transmissions that may get blocked if a solvent of any kind is used to dislodge large particles during flushing procedure.
