Engine oil for 2012

friends i use caltex 20w-50 oil for my corolla xli and change the oil after 3000 kilometers but some friends guide me to use 10w- 40 for better performance . and my car is 195000 driven . suggest me which oil is good for engine life and performance thank u

Although you haven't mentioned model year, but still... If engine health is perfect and all engine seals are healthy & intact, then I would recommend 5w-30 (to start with), then 10w-30 or 5w-40, and lastly, 10w-40.

Prefer Fully Synthetic one, meeting latest API SN /SN Plus and / or ILSAC GF-5 criteria.

If you want best for bucks, then look for following and change oil + genuine oil filter after every 5,000 Kms:

1. 5w-30: Total Quartz 9000 Future series only.
2. 5w-40: ZIC, Shell or Caltex Chevron.
3. 10w-40: ZIC only.

I believe you have 2NZ-FE in your ride, and for this engine; 5w-30 is one of the recommended oil grades.

If engine health is fine and seals are also perfect, then I think there are no chances of any type of leakage, damages, etc.
