Engine oil for Alto 660cc

I have JDM Suzki Alto G 660cc, it is driven 182,000 but the mechanic recommends to out 20W 50 for the car and that is also in the car. But i feel this is isn't supposed to go for this car as this grade is used 1300cc 1000cc. I want to improve my efficiency. My current engine oil is also mineral oil, should i change to synthetic or fully synthetic and which brand?

What grade you are currently using?. As mileage is high and you have used mineral oil, I believe best bet for your car is Shell HX6 (10w40) Semi Synthetic.

You can either use 5w30 or 5w40. I would personally recommend full synthetic regardless of grade.

Most of the mechanics will put 20W-50, they will put it in 660,800,1000,1300,1500. Logic!

Your car is relatively new so 5w 30 is ok, but my car has been driven for 184,000 km.

Older the car, thicker the oil you need.

Nope, totally wrong concept propagate by the our mechanics. Use the manufacturer recommended oil and if there is a wear and tear in engine due to usage of thicker oil, get it fixed and then use the manufacturer recommended oil. Thick oil will only make things worse

Even 300k miles in USA and they still use 5w30 in Corolla 1999. why? Now don't give stupid logic that there environment is different.
How this science came into world to use thicker oils if car is old? Thicker oil will only help hide a major problem in the engine but in long term it will cost you more.
