Engine oil for GLI 1.3 2010 model with excellent engine condition

Hi own a 2010 Corolla GLI 1.3, car has been kept in very good condition by the first owner and by me as well. Although the car has just completed 200000km but engine sound and performance is still amazing. i am from islamabad and normally get an average of 13.5 to 14.3km within the city and on long route 18km with AC. i use to use havoline 20w-50 and i use to change oil every 3000 km. car doesnt not heat up on long routes such as islamabad to Multan neither consume or leak oil and doesnt heat up on high rpm. infact it gives me no problem at all. alhamdulillah. my question is that i recently used havoline 10w-30 for winters as per discussion with my mechanic. he said you can switch back to 20w-50 as soon as the winter ends. Using 10w-30 i feel not much difference in average but i want to know should i keep this or switch back to 20w-50. and does switching back to 20w-50 will cause any harm to engine?

one more thing. car in in one hand use and drives about 100-120km in a week max.

Where did you read that? One should follow owners manual and only switch to higher viscosity if there is some oil reduction.

@Op if you don't face any issues of reduction then do not switch to 20w50. Cooling system knows how to mantain engine temperature.

5w30 and 10w30 are only recommendation for this engine.
Toyota Pakistan been recommending higher viscosities just to sell their own oil. Now they have launched 5w30 Taglon X oil and they will recommend that.

That is only dependant upon engine health. If its burning oil or reducing more: then one should switch to higher viscosities like 5w40, 5w50 or 20w50. For corolla recommended drain intervals in Pakistan are 5000kms, and you should drive to the same point. Changing engine oil early is also bad coz you will not give enough time to oil to clean engine properly. Every engine oil is formulated on a different dynamic.

My car is 2016 Altis 1.8 cvti 99k driven, and I'm using amsoil signature series 5w30 100% synthetic in it. I change oil filter at 7500kms and engine/filter again at 15000kms, but that oil is meant for that much mileage. In fact it will do more but 15000kms is enough for me, and the filters that i'm using are meant to handle that mileage. I won't switch to higher viscosities unless i'll face issue with this.

Use any good 5w-30 oil.
It's never too late to use the correct recommend engine oil.
As you said engine is in perfect condition so don't go for 20w-50.

10w30 is fine as well. He should not switch now. His car is 200k kms driven. Anything can go wrong with hopping at such mileage.

I used it in my 2010 gli throughout being a noob at that time.
Drove it to 220k kms. Sold it to a friend in 2016 who drove it on same toyota 20w50 oil and sold it at 350k kms. Now the new owner has covered 460k kms with reduction of like 800ml at every 5000kms drain. He's also using toyota 20w50. Oil never ruins engine, fake oil will ruin it for sure.
Sticking to the recommendation gives best fuel economy, protection and acceleration.

Thankyou for your time and valueable information. yes zero mechanical work has been done on my car so far. as i said i never had any kind of issue related to engine etc. So i will keep using 10w-30 however, this is the first time i have used it and i have not gone on a longer route. so i will check. if their is no oil reduction. i will keep using it. and if there is any then i will switch back to 20w-50 as per your guidance. 200k km is nothing for a Toyota.
As you said you had used your previous Corolla for 220km and upto 400km onwards.
Usually stated on many international forums any Toyota is good for 300k+ miles = 500k km if maintained properly.
Again I will say that it's better to use recommend 5w-30 oil rather than 20w-50 cause 200k km is still not that much.

Have seen 2006 Xli driven 1.1 Million KM with same engine without an overhaul though it's now needing overhaul but 1.1 Million KM is great number in our conditions.

I would say whatsoever the oil you use, make sure that you're getting it from authentic souce and oil is original.

Exactly but 10w30 and 5w30 both are recommended for this engine. 5w30 gives better startup then 10w30 when external temperature goes below zero. Yes he should use what's recommended if he won't face any oil reduction issues.

The most i have seen is on a 2010 corolla xli 1300cc driven 640000kms and it was being used as airport cab. I asked the driver about engine he said its original engine just oil and filters changed at every 3000kms and tyre changes every 1 lakh kms.
