Engine oil for Honda 2KVA generator

I usually change oil after every 100 hours or so ... Previously i was using total 20w40 oil the one we use in motorcycle and now switched to pso generator oil .. however iv'e observed that the genny is consuming more oil since i used pso generator oil and sound has somewhat increased so i'll again revert back to total on next oil change

I have honda 2.5 kw generator. From few weeks i had a problem that oil is dropping from air filter box after 2 to 3 hours of running someone told me to change the tappet cover i Changed but no result... 1 mechanic told me to re build engine cost aprx 6000 Rs. If any guy know this issue so please help me....thanks...!

never heard this issue on hondas.
check valve seals, valves. get tappets adjusted

lots of oil deposits on valves when u open the head.
visible white smoke + oil when u put hand in front of silencer.
engine reduce oil in 15 to 20 hours time days

I got the mechanic, he checked and said that generator seals and tappets adjustment is ok... but the problem is still there... he told me sometimes when engine rings worn out then generator did not give smoke but piston back some oil through tappets as in my case si he suggest me to remake the whole engine... please givey your suggestion??? Waiting for your reply.! Thanks...

Keep in mind that the Generator is aprx 6 years old and totally running on gas...

Well bro i've also a 2 K.v Genset
but of the Yamaha Company
and from the Day one i m using P.S.O Generator Oil in it.
u can use 2 packs of oil for three time.
one pack price is 320. Reliable oil.
from 2 years i m using this oil and The Genset is in perfect condition.....daily usage is 9 hour max.

u can feel the oil moisture out of silencer by placing ur hand. get the rings changed only. if piston and sleeves require work do the overhaul. otherwise change rings only.
when u open engine check cam shaft also for wear & replace if necessary

Using To Much Thin Oil In Gen Set Is Not Recommended Since Its Air Cooled And Will Consume Oil And Run Hotter.....Thin Oil Will Burn More And Leaks More Evenly Than Thick....So It Will Leak From Seals More...And Everywhere When Your Gen Gets Bit Older....

20w-50 Will Normally Do Best ...Just Do Oil change On Time...And Tappets Need To Be Adjusted On these OHV Engines On Yearly Basis..Or Quarterly Or Half Yearly Depending On Use

Oil is changed more frequently because generators are not mobile like cars and bikes. These are stationary equipment and not cooled much so running on higher temperature. The oil is subjected to more stress and is broken down into other compounds like varnish etc.
If it is running on petrol or gas any API SJ, SL in 20W-50 viscosity is enough. Running hrs could be between 70 to 90 is enough in peak summer. If any synthetic oil like API SN is used hrs can be increased as very high additive package is used in it and base oil do not break down quickly. Topping up can also be done to safe cost if any engine is consuming oil.

why use synthetic oil for air cooled generators? I use caltex cng 20w50 for my 2kva generator
