Please comment on what oil should be used in Honda 2KVA power generator? and what should be the frequency of oil change?
I use the one litre can used for bikes mostly Shell or Caltex. As far change is concerned depends upon the usage. I guess after 50 hours or six months which ever happens first.
use any 20w50 engine oil and replace after every 50 hoursshell caltex zic mobil which ever
@incognito59 which generator you have? and which brand you use?
It's an air-cooled engine, so it's ought to consume a little oil. Therefore, stick to 5W-30. Oil will be consumed, but the engine will perform better. Thicker oil is not recommended.I am using Total Quartz 9000 5W-30 fully synthetic in my Briggs and Stratton 13.5kW generator. I change oil after 80-100 hours.
use any car`s engine oil.. Like Zic, havoline , etc..never ever use PSO generator oil...
I ve recently changed my oil to PSO generator oil (10w-30). Why its a bad oil?
^^ I tried it only one time!! I usually start generator on direct Gas , one day when I tried to start it on gas, self jammed!!! dont know what is going on as my paper is being!! my brother told me mechanic cost 1200 for fix this problem!! after that I never use PSO oil...
Thanks all for replies.
why do we have to change generator oil so frequently as compared to cars?
^^ because of Gas!!
^If gas is the culprit then what do you think about CNG cars?
CNG and home usage gas are two different things brother !
change after a week or two in case of heavy use or maximum a month in case of average use.
I think it is because generator is a small engine. Small engines like bikes run on higher RPMs and so oil breakdowns more quickly. It could also be as these have no oil filters.
It has nothing to do with gas.
They are the same things just that CNG is high pressure!!
Always use fully synthetic oil in AIR COOLED generators
Difference tou hay naaa...
Well, we use our generator on petrol, approx 1 month!! 4 hours in a day!!never decrease the oil level..
GAG:but same generator , after every 15 hours of working, it require some amount of oil...
It could be that the gas mixture is too lean causing engine to run at higher temps and more oil loss.
Usually these chinese generator throws oil from breather pipe in filter box therefore I top up the oil every week and change it every alternate sunday. my generator runs 6 hours a day except sunday due to no load shedding.
what about air cooled bike engines? do u recommend synthetic for them too?
So whats the verdict on using engine oil for generators??
@ storm/@ Xulfiqar bhai? a good friend.. your opinion is desperately awaited plz. Plz guide whether 10w30 or 20w40 or 20w50 is better for air cooled new and old generators..
