Engine Oil for Vitz 2006 KSP 90 1.0L

Experts .

My Vitz 2006 model KSP90 1.0L has done approx. 107,000 km and its engine has gone weaker now. It has started reducing oil - approx 450 ml per 3.500 km(every oil change) which is 13% oil reduction per oil change interval. Also it gives white smoke (only) when FULL throttle is applied (but no smoke at all with normal driving)

Experts ,including toyota dealership, have recommended me to switch to 20W50 engine oil to reduce wear and tear (though it will effect fuel consumption negatively) ; currently I am using 5W30 as recommended in the car manual.

Questions :

1. Is their suggestion correct ? .Any disadvantages of using thick oil apart from bad fuel consumption?
2. Which 20W50 oil should I use - which one is the best in the market . Toyota oil or any other ?
3. What is the recommended oil change interval for this particular suggested oil

may be i am wrong but using 20w-50 will not reduce wear and tear but infact increase wear and tear , and at the same time reduce oil reduction only !
i am having same issue , i am using 5w-40 , same amount of oil reduction in my case as well but atleast i know that this oil is good for my engine and wont reduce engine life quicker like 20w-50 would

There has to be a logic for 20W50 oil reducing engine life??? and I wonder if it's true why does toyota indus send a brand new Toyota corolla with this viscosity oil from the factory????

Because 20w-50 oil particle size will be bigger so it wont lubricate the engine won't create the oil film needed ! Although it's a very debatable topic , they use / recommend such oils because they are cheap , If they start recommending fully synthetic high end oils , people will stop buying their cars due to high maintainance costs

20w-50 because they are jerks

2)get compression test done

It will make engine run heavy engine have to do slight more work do to same task thus more wear and tear

What is the purpose of these two tests. Can you please elaborate?
Secondly, I have never changed the fuel filter (but got it cleaned at 80k) , could that be a reason by any way?

No, I'm not a high rpm driver.My car runs only in Lahore between 60-80 kmph.This oil reduction has started only 3 months ago I.e 10 k kilometres ago

What about 10W40 oil ?. Also a big NO in my case ????..... Is 5W30 still better than 10W40 for my car?

Use 5W40.., full synthetic oil

Don't worry about oil consumption. Just keep on topping up. But at certain point of time when the oil consumption has gone beyond limits like 1 liter for 1200 KM or less, then go for engine overhauling. It could be top or major over hauling. At this stage, you can go with top overhauling as well.

Does it make sense to get its "compression test" done from toyota (they charge 2000/- for that)?.
According to one local mechanic (a good one), it's engine is 40% weaker now and the only solution is complete overhaul as back pressure is high.

Why not purchase a second hand engine if possible through reliable resources rather than going for an overhaul?

But you have to have good/ trustworthy contacts with the mechanic who should accompany you for purchase of the engine from second hand market. Not only this, the mechanic accompanyin you should have solid reliable contacts within the second hand parts market.
