Engine oil light not going off

Fellows,

I own a 2006 vitz, recently engine oil check light went on 300 kms shy of 4000 kms. (I usually get oil change at 4000 kms), I have had oil change plus oil filter change. The light did not go off. local mechanic told me to change the oil filter, changed it. Oil level is physically ok but indicator light is not going off.

Need advise on a reliable, competent mechanic in Karachi who can diagnose the problem and give honest solution.

This is serious, you need to take immediate action.
Do not drive, unless you are sure of the issue. There are 2 possibilities
1. Oil Pump is not working, in this case if you drove a car just a few km it will seize your engine.
2. The oil sensor switch is malfunctioning, in this case you need to change that switch.
Happened with my 2007 Cuore after car wash, it was the bad switch. Check these possibilities immediately.
My neighbor destroyed engine of his 2009 Xli because of this.

Thanks, where to go for fixing it, i dont have any specific mechanic so far ( as I feel uncomfortable taking car to random mechanics, they either lack expertise or honesty)..

1st we need to make sure that, is it a faulty oil pump or just sensor ?
There is a little DIY for that.
Start engine.
Open bonnet.
Remove engine oil cap.
And look for the oil running inside the engine.
It is just to get some idea about the oil pump working or totally dead.
If you rev your car to 3k or 4k rpms & light goes off on high revs, then it means that your oil pump is weak but still working.
How much you have driven after this issue ?
Did u noticed any change in engine sound ?

Thanks Humayun, local mechanic did that and said oil filter is not letting oil come up into the system properly as the oil was not splashing out in normal way. I changed the filter and the problem is still there, i feel slight change in engine sound but not too sure. i have driven over 100 kms since this issue.

goto mechanic ask him to check if there is any physical dent under carriage at the oil sump. Then ask him to drain oil from the pan bolt in clean tub to reuse.

after oil drain ask mechanic to lift the car on jack stands all four wheels & open the oil sump check for the oil pick up strainer it must be close to clogging with cramel like grease. ask him to remove & wash it with degreaser multiple time so every mesh is clean as new. repack in the same sequence, use new gaskit for the oil sump. re-use the oil and start the engine light must go off in under 15 seconds let it idle for 3 minutes shut down, wait 10 minutes and start again light shall go off immediately.

if this does not happen, 2nd step is to check the oil pressure switch remove & get a new one OEM new from parts shop not from scrap yard..

Thanks Capsat. How likely is that the oil pump is faulty, how much a new oil pump cost for vitz 2006. does it need to be specifically of toyota vitz 2006 or any other make would serve the purpose?

read again carefully & slowly .. if oil pump is faulty your car would have died by now.

SUMP is engine oil container under the engine.
