Increase my fuel economy and BACK TO THE COLD START DEVICE or OPTIMISER (CSD).

Diesel is so damn expensive it is really choking me and my pocket. I want to reduce my diesel bill as much as possible.

I have 2005 corolla 2.0D diesel. My econony is 14,75 km per litre properly checked by filling tank up to brim top, drive till nearly empty then filling up again to same level and checking against mileage. Driving is with a very light foot and mix of 85% long distance at 90 kmh and 15% town driving.

I checked the CSD device and noticed that it was stuck in the open or hot position. Should I just leave it like this as I dont have any starting issues hot or cold. Im worried that if i free the csd device the car will eat more diesel when cold and reduce my over economy?

Finally, I visited yesterday the same mechanic as told by amcolian1097. Only one valve seal had problem. It took only one hour to complete the job. Today morning temp was approx 0 deg C and I started the car on single heater without any trouble. There was no vibration at cold start.

Once again thanx for guidance. The mechanics told by you looked much expert. They told me to change the oil and air filter on time, so that engine can run for more 100k km without trouble.

Dear Xulfiqar and Imrad2d Bahi,

I am planning to replace the the valve/tappet cover of my Toyota 2c engine with newest one valve cover which comes with 2ct engine.
Is there any benefit or just waste of money. Right now fuel average is 14km/lit locally.
I also want to install turbo with this 2c engine. Will it be feasible or it damage the engine. If feasible which turbo will bolt on fit.

Dear Experts,

I need your help to select the nozzles of 2c Engine. There are many nozzles available but no body knows the data of that specific nozzles. I had attached some of the part#. Kindly suggest which one is best. I want only economy and i am a soft foot driver.

Before changing original nozzles the consumption was 14km/l and now after changing 10km/l. You know diesel is very costly these days. ( i want to install now DN0PD31 for economy, is it suitable)? Kindly help .

I am not sure about the original Nozzle part number but I know it is 2C engine inside 2D. just use original nozzles but pump and nozzle pressure/flow calibration and pump installation should be done by a seasoned mechanic then you will get back to good fuel consumption.If pump timing is wrong you will feel power lag and you will need to change gear from 5 to 4 many times and it will take more fuel.

Pls., consult toyota and ask for original nozzles for your correct engine type (2C).

For turbo installation I have no idea but I came to know that diesel pump is different for 2Ds with turbo charger.

Thanks for the help/reply. Every Toyota dealer has now DN0PD650 which has bigger sac hole (for newer 2c engine which has bigger tappet cover too) is own word 2002 models but before 2002 models Toyota sell DN20PD32 which has smaller sac hole (smaller tappet cover).
From which shop u get work done on nozzles and IP.

Back to my thread after a long time.
Actually I sold my Toyota 2.0 D Saloon and bought a Honda Accord 2002. Enjoyed the ride for an year but it was very heavy on my pocket being fuel thirsty. Resultantly I have again switched over to 2.0 D saloon after selling the Accord.
However every used car comes with issues. Same is the case with this one. As soon as I got hold of this car I went to the same mechanic from whom I got the tappet adjustment done an year and a half back. However, this time another surprise awaited me. When he opened the tappet cover and removed the shims it was found out that the channel which brings oil to tappet cover was dry, means no oil was lifted from oil pump to the tappet region. Secondly the tappets were tight but there were pieces of x-ray films cut in the shape of shims and placed underneath the shims. As soon as these were removed the valve clearance was normal.
To fix the former problem, head had to be removed and a very small amount of silicone was found sticking in the channel which was probably a spread of silicone applied during some work done by the previous owner. However, the performance was improved but two problems still persist

1. the cold start device is fixed in the hot position so the rpm does not advance on cold start

2. there was a small leakage of oil from some place near the chamber (very small- approx 2-3 drops in a day). When checked it was found to be because of leak from oil pump seal.

Now the mechanic says

1. Don't worry for the Cold start device, let it be like this.

2. Changing the oil pump seal would require removing half of the engine from below so leave it as such.

odd problems you have there.

the oil pump is a pain on a toyota 2C, and it does require removing the sump etc. If you do remove the sump only seal with proper toyota FIPG or threebond 1208 etc. Do not use general purpose RTV in rainbow colours.

if the oil was not travelling upto the head - immediately stop driving the car, you will completely destroy the engine.

For cold start device - clean it out and retest it or replace the whole item.

The issue of oil not travelling upto the head has been resolved. But I feel the engine is a bit more noisy than usual especially at high speeds.

What do you say about the oil pump seal. should it be replaced immediately or I can wait and see. It is reaching the timing belt, though the leakage is very small but the oil reaching the timing belt is making me uneasy.

Pls suggest a good mechanic in KARACHI for 2.0D Corolla. I am planning to buy a second hand car. Last we kept a 2.0D was 10 12 years back. Now i have seen one car but want to get it checked by a mechanic before buying.

does the car have any maintenance history available? share the available data. ask the owner what is fuel average when was the last time injector pump was calibrated and the belts changed, if car odo is not tampered it must be over 100,000 kms. The Corolla 2D have the very common Toyota 2C diesel engine which got swapped in so many other cars when diesel was a CHEAP fuel in Pakistan, but non of diesel USTAD have correctly fixed it to perform optimum.

checking a diesel engine health is bit tricky so called diesel specialist always shrrug shoulder when you go back to them for some malfunction reply is " used car aur engine mai kuch na kuch kam tou nikal he aataa hai "
