Engine swaps for civic ES

Hi folks,

I live in rawalpindi and own a 2005 VTI civic, (recently bought), (d16w9 manual)
I'm new to Hondas overall and love the car, wanted to ask what are the best engine swaps for this car, I wanna keep it to the D series, don't wanna mess around and do some alterations.
My questions are as follows:
1. Which are the best d series engines to look out for in a swap?
2. Would I have to change a lot more if I'd go from a d16 to a d17 and is it better?
3. What's the best place to get these swaps done if you're looking for an authentic jugaar free engine swap and whats the best market to get these engines from ( not some used ragra hua maal for which you use 20w50 oil)
4. How to tell when going to buy an engine if it's good or has just been overhauled by someone and they call it kabuli and rip you off
5. What's the est. Price to keep in mind if I'd swap to a d16 (diff variant or even this one) from my current..and if I'd go to a d17 instead

If your D16W9 is in a decent working condition, don't swap it, unless you are getting the correct ECU and wiring harness for the new engine too. In any case, it's one of the best D series engines because of it's dual vtec.

I just had a bad experience with my 2003. It has a D17A2 now (single stage Vtec-e). It visibly loses power above 5500 RPM, because the D17A2 has a different, single stage cam. The car is ruined.

Yeah, no point swapping to another D series unless there's major issues in your current motor.

My engine is weak, considering that I'm shifting to thicker oil because of either weak valves or maybe rings Idk yet but at a higher Rev 4k+ I see some white smoke...it is not that bad yet but I am mentally preparing myself for a swap, I am also thinking about a d15b 3 stage vtec...also would be a great option no?
Also if you've an idea on pricing and what to keep in mind...and any recommended places in twin cities for a reliable swap that actually get you your money's worth (I.e., sourcing proper wiring, enabling vtec solenoids, the right ecu and everything basically)
Any recommendations?

try to rebuild it you can get parts from honda sugoi.... it may be worn valve seals or rings... use oem parts pls

D15b dual vtec is an excellent option, provided that you get the correct ECU and wiring harness too.

Rings and valve seals are not that big a deal - you can get them replaced easily from a good workshop. Get a compression test done for your current engine first.

Is it just me that I don't trust d series rebuilds...Idk why but maybe because a rebuild is as good as the person doing it and I don't really know proper honda folks that could do a decent one...my electrician said that tappet adjustment kay baad bhi har cheez check krke bhi agar gari ye kr rhi hy tou aap head khula lain...mujy head valve leakage lg rhi..and I'm currently stuck between two things
1)abhi ky liye 20w50 daal ky guzara kru..jb tk chalay chalau..and then proper swap krlu..because what I've heard is..aik dfa head khul gaya..phir rolay ni mukaingy..ye tou wou..aur agar leakage ring piston side sy hui tou zyada lamba kaam and worth it ni hoga...etc etc..
2) I should get a second opinion from a mechanic instead of an electrician and maybe get the head thing done..
Car is running a bit rich..burning oil (when I bought the car it was on 20w50 but I tried to switch to 10w40 for a smoother ride) but in a very very small amount...silencer and plugs are black everytime we pull them out.
Because a good d16w9 is indeed a decent engine and d15b dual vtecs are extremely rare with the right wiring
and ecu..

Just wanted to thank you folks for taking out the time, especially zain sb. As well as he has been actively guiding me regarding the PCV valve thing too from the last thread as well

Reverting back to this thread after recent diagnosing,
Compression test results are as follows
165-120-90-140. Mechanic has checked and states that this can be easily sorted given that we're not hearing any crank noises yet and a rebuild would be a better option with genuine parts (btw this mechanic had all sorts of k builds his garage and when I walked in..he was building a b18c with forged pistons).
Estimated kharcha is 50-70k..could go above if we find more things that aren't functioning or need replacement
