Engineering Admission UoL or USA - Civil Engg

Hi folks,

I want to apply for admission in Civil Engineering at Lahore. I have choice of private universities only. My options are University of South Asia & University of Lahore. Both are private universities. Does anyone already studying/studied from either of these two institutions here on Pakwheels. Please help in deciding.

Also which one has accrediation from PEC ? According to PEC website, University of Lahore, BSc.Civil Engineering is not on the list, while for Univ.of South Asia, PEC accrediated Intake of Batch 2006 only. What about other batches, are they without PEC registrations ? And no one from University of Lahore had PEC registration for Civil Engineering, as per PEC website.

On the other hand UOL, it states PEC accrediation for Batch 2009-Fall intake only.

Can anybody please clear this issue.

Welcome to the field of Civil Engineering. Let me know how I can help. I have few friends who did civil engineering from non accredited universities. still fighting for the registration at PEC. If after engineering you want to work in the local area then PEC registration is must.

If you want to work overseas, they will see first your prior experience. Why UET, NUST is not on your list? Or for that matter any fully accredited university?

Dont waste time and money for non approved location for a professional studies.

The problem is my Fsc. marks. I scored 702. I want to go there but, UET and NUST will not even consider me.

Thats y was left with these options only. But PEC registeration is a big must. Any options ?

Well go for graduation overseas.. Like Any Scandinavian countries . My Final words if an institution is not registered by HEC and you want to remain in Pakistan then its a big chance you are taking. Its like a gamble.. And to be honest I will play safe.

In Pakistan people do see your educational institutional background. Civil engineering is a field which involves lot of on site work as well as well as design work. If you remain in site supervision than all your experience will matter a lot. But to kick start without a HEC / PEC will be tough..
I don't know UOL so cant comment.

Here in US . On one of a site where I go the PM is not having a degree , he is carpenter but he has 28 years of site experience and management. He is making around 175K/yr..

Fazal Bhai! You are absolutely right. But problem with Scandinavian countries is their Language! Bachelors courses are offered in their native languages only (unlike Masters, which are in English).

Other Universities which offer English Language degree programs are too much expensive around 6000EUR/Semester, which is totally out of question for me.

Than remains only eastern Europe, which is somewhat affordable, Like Poland, Czech, Hungary etc. But It provokes, if degree from these countries would be any worth in International market or in PK.

Please comment and extend your further kind help.

Too much expensive... minimum I could find program is 900K / year, which is high considering 4-year program.

Taking admission in non-accredited degree is a gamble. You may get registration in 4 years or you may not. Gamble.

What I can propose you is to look for other engineering disciplines as well. Why are you limiting yourself? Courses in higher education tend to 'educate' in a different way than at secondary level. You can have liking for another degree as well if it boosts your interest.

This is called provisional accreditation. This does not mean its accredited. HEC can take that status anytime. Stay away.

ifs its accredited then no issues. whatever you choose make sure its approved by HEC. sometimes within one university one program is approved while another is not.

Whenever I cross Attock bridge or for that matter any project I was involved even a little bit. When I pass by I feel proud for being part of it.

BTW the attock bridge near attock fort the new one which is actually higher in elevation had some very interesting inside stories.. Its one of the longest cantilever bridge but there was a serious construction or little bit design failure as well.. Its safe to drive over it now ..

Like most people here pointed out, do not opt for a university, or a course within an accredited university that is not recognised by PEC. In my opinion, your university and background education matters less these days when you are trying to get your first job in Pakistan. You need good connections and references in most cases. Having said that, applying for an engineering job without an accredited engineering degree is a gamble not worth taking.

I love civil but mechanical is in my blood (H)
No doubt about civil engineers demand. They work on project from day 1 to until the project ends. Am i right ???

I am just crazy about Civil Engineering. The sense of achievement upon finishing a building is somewhat extra ordinary. It makes you proud that, yes this was made by me or I was part of it. So Civil engineering is the passion only for me.

This is for 2008 intake batch only. But Civil is not recognized as per PEC website. UoL says their program is recognized but PEC says opposite. Dont know which one to trust.
