Well in my case, I have swapped 3 of mine and friends 7th gen civics with eps units (obviously with proper wiring, via service manual). Why was this done, well the HPS racks, pumps and lines were all dead when the cars were bought used.
The pathetic fact is, Original seals for the rack are not available, the ones available are of pathetic quality and dont work (concluded after DIY rebuilding the racks 3 times). There is simply no facility available which can rebuild the racks properly and bench test it, and honda doesnt want to touch your old car (which was sold by them in the first place).
EPS is serving good uptill now (30k+ kms), although once it goes kaput (torque sensor, motor etc.), has no parts backup too. The reason for swapping was these units were available in Junk yard in relatively clean condition.
