Excess engine oil removal

Hi
Pls advise if there's any other way to remove excess engine oil without having to open the oil pan drain nut at the bottom? I checked the dipstick & it showed oil level more than desired so wanted to remove the excess oil to bring the oil level back to correct level.

Hmmm...

try this: Get a 1LTR 7up or any other plastic bottle. Make a hole in the cap/lid of the bottle, and put a pipe in it, gas pipe anything which is flexible. No plastic pipes, just rubber ones.

Squeeze the bottle, insert the pipe inside the engine oil refill hole and try to create a vacuum. That might suck out the engine oil.
Could always use your mouth, but that is risky and harmful.

Experts will guide you better:)
Or get that syringe which is used for animals, and extract it, it is a big syringe so it can hold maybe 200-300 ml at a time.

use a clean drain pain and drain some oil out, put the sump bolt back in when about a litre has drained out, very simple procedure. You can also choose to suck it out from the dipstick which requires a vacuum setup.

Mine is Honda civic.
The desired level was said to be the in b/w lower n higher mark on dipstick but somehow mine is showing more/extra touching the upper mark.

Unfortunately draining from below method is somewhat difficult to control as more then desired oil could drain out and can be messy.

clean the dip stick and check the oil level 2 or 3 times sometimes it shows the level high but after several checks you will get the oil level if its on the higher end drain by the sump nut.

except from beig messy, u can always pour back till desired level is achieved

take a large drain pan, drain all out - put plug back, refill the same oil with some left over. Not messy at all, if you know what you are doing.

I believe this problem is on a car with a 4 litre sump, No problems - small pan works.

I would not advise this if your sump holds over 800 litres and is in a bilge or a mineshaft.

Oil is circulated at high pressure inside the engine, and too much oil won't find place, and could break the cars seals.

high pressure is not in the sump, its in the galleries after the pump, the high oil level in the sump can cause backing up of the oil trickling down from above and cause foaming (like beating an egg). This is bad as the air under the pistons requires some space to move too.

btw this foaming can also cause cavitation in the oil pump which also means your crank can be scratched.

If your oil level is at the top mark on the dipstick - you are good to go. Manufacturers always have such error tolerance.

My brother car had bit of oil leak from oil filter just after oil change. It turned out later that seal of oil filter was not good at all.
He said by removing oil filter, oil does not drain due to vacuum/pressure being created inside engine as long as oil refill cap is closed and it was resolved by simply changing the filter although little bit of oil was drained.
In my opinion draining little bit of oil from drain plug should nt be a big deal.

when should we check oil level? after stoping engine it is lower then when engine was off for hours? for example for in morning it is little above high mark but after start and stop it is little lower than high mark.

best is to check in the morning or any other time after atleast 1 hour engine shutoff.
