Excessive Pakistani custom charges on a ups package

Hello everyone,
I have imported ladies handbags, from china a week ago weighing around 5 kg through ups. The total amount i did pay was 11900 rupees including ups 55$ shipment charges. Yesterday, I received a call from a ups courier person. He told me you have to pay custom duty 9500 rupees to get your product delivered at home. I need to know if the value of total package is 11900 rupees, why the hell they are charging this huge amount of custom duty almost equal the price of the product. Kindly tell me what should I do now. Is there a way or method to talk to them asking them to lower the price because that's too much and if that's the case then what's the point of importing things from other countries if the custom charges are equal the price of the product.

You should have checked to see the import duties on the items before importing them. You should check the latest FBR SRO or visit the website. Duties have increased on a lot of items, this is why items like Heinz Ketchup which is imported, has disappeared.

If you are importing bags weighing 5kg then obviously you have to pay custom on it.

Yeah I know, I have to pay custom tax but this much. Don't you think, It's unreasonable when the price of whole package is 11900 rupees including shipment price and they are charging almost 10000 rupees on it.

In your case, shipping was very high i dont know why...what was the declared value on package? My sister buys children cloth from Aliexpress quite a lot and recently she has also started getting custom receipts which are almost equal to product value. I am not talking about a lot of items, they are putting custom on even one item. Have a look at this thread's latest posts

On a side note, unrelated to this post. Personally speaking, considering the current economy, govt should put ban on all imports and improve local industry so we start exporting something instead of importing everything. Go to any store and you will see 80% items are imported. Whereas in other countries, 80% items are local made.

AliExpress usually send through china post which will obviously be cheap and requires at least 20 days to arrive to the destination country and shipping price is already included in the product price but my case is different. I have ordered through alibaba and shipped it through the private courier company (which promise to deliver the product within a week). Considering this, obviously, they will charge more as compared to post to post.
Yeah, I agree, they should promote local market. But, what's their (importers) fault in it. Charging this much custom tax is still totally unacceptable by any means whether you agree or not.

My question is that maybe they have miscalculated the custom tax. Maybe they didn't see the invoice. Can someone guide me what step should I take next.

Declared value of the package is 38$ on the invoice. Shipping charges are 55$. Total, I have payed is 93$.

I used to face this too, UPS is being stupid - the local Pakistani channel of UPS are complete idiots and morons, They have no right of "dealing on behalf" of receiving party with Pakistan customs. The correct way is to contact the destination party to inform them that their package is held by customs.

This is very cheap. I think there should be at least 300% import duty on garments and accessories. Country is going bankrupt and people are doing useless shopping on AliExpress.

I don't know why are you being so rude and mad. It may be useless for you but not for me. If I am not getting the desired product from my country. Obviously, I'll import the product. What's so bad in it and who is against the custom charges. I am just asking someone to guide me properly. So, that I don't have to pay more than the required amount of tax. What's my fault, If country is going bankrupt. All I can do from my side is to pay the taxes and pray for my country. Which is exactly what I am doing and lastly, your comment isn't helping brother. its better to contact customs office where they keep all the items . there are many officers who are working there . you can talk to them .

get the import manifest from UPS and get to customs yourself. I think that UPS has cleared it on their money and is demanding you pay the fee.

This being Pakistan they will not give you the package and you cannot do anything abt it as there is no law to help you.

Praying doesn't help. Action does. Ladies handbags import is useless and waste of foreign exchange. Government can't ban such imports because of international agreements, its up to consumers to make educated decision.

You can find handbags in every market. Its not a rare item like a car part that you can't get locally.
