Yep, that is because they care more for their customers’ safety by building 4-5 stars ANCAP rated cars. They could easily cut costs like TATA did by using rubber bands for door hinges and ELFY (adhesive bond) in place of bolts/rivets.

I still remember the good old days (not so long ago) when Tata Motors and its dream 'Nano project' was the butt of jokes in Pakwheels. Pakwheels used to be filled up with sarcastic comments and jokes about the Nano.

Don't worry about safety standards, The Nano surpasses the Indian safety standards and
already is far safer than the tin box we call Maruti 800 and what you call Mehran
. Also whenever the Nano is ready to sell in Europe, it will pass all safety European satety norms too.

Even its toughest critic cannot but give credit to Tata Motors now.

LOL! there are many other things (dont really want to mention here) that are by far the most acceptable practices under your indian standards, but that doent mean they are acceptable worldwide, just take an example of hygiene..and how could you say nano is safer than tin box Maruti? have they crash tested both these cars? if yes, i'll be happy if you could share with us the outcome of any such tests.

well, buying doesnt mean anything. Most of the people might not know this but just recently a UAE based firm has acquired 9% shares of Mercedes Benz and hence has become the biggest shareholder. Does that signify anything? well, not really. Likewise one of the biggest shareholders in Ferrari and Maserati is a Kuwaiti Firm, does that mean anything, well again, not really!!

Yaar we did not liked Adam Revo which was a far better car than Nano, body wise and engine wise, then how could we like that Nano. There is no point of jelousy here, we here at pakwheels discuss technology and value for money. I personally think it is socially irresponsible to make so light weight, unsafe car unless until its proven otherwise!!!

It means Nano fully loaded is quite acceptable but its price would be high as well.

Yes a fully loaded NANO with HAVC,Front power windows, fog lamps and some other goodies will cost around INR 1.85 on road. That is a good INR 30000 below the base M800. The OTR price of the base version will be around INR 1.25l.

It is a tarrefic VFM and add the FE of 23.6 KMPL.

Also the base version of the maruti 800 doesn't have AC, Fog Lamps or Front Power windows which the top version of the Nano will come with.

Suzuki might need to take the inititative to produce something like that,
As in future there will be more market for small cars and their car production should now reveal the market of low cost cars like NANO.

I think there will be huge market for them.

Massallah sey nice car Tata Nano, Desiboy my observation, from front don't u think it very small like if it crash with a car from front do u think the driver still would be safe? Mehran or Maruti got atleast reasonable long hood n bonut that the crash won't reach driver from front if crash with car from front? (Under 50kmph speed) I would really want to look Nano crash test...

1st: 3.45 (Recommended Shift @ upto 10 kmph)

2nd: 1.95 (Recommended Shift between 20-30 kmph)

3rd: 1.26 (Recommended Shift between 30-50 kmph)

4th: 0.838 (Recommended Shift between 50-70 kmph)

It only has four gears....Which gear do we shift in when doing 50-70 kmph in fourth???kinda confuses me.......

@DesiBoy....Tata Nano certainly is a good car and due credit must be given to Tata Motors for having the guts to come up with such a thing but........you must stop trumpeting on this forum with undue and exaggeratted words for the Nano....You should control your emotions a bit...I know you are very charged up about this project but still!! peace.
