No doubt the cooling is no match for the sensitive splits... I also didnot want to sell it but I don't have the space for window ac installation as I live in a rented house

In my experience, Windows do NOT consume more energy than splitoy-ACs.

My 2-Ton Mitsubishi Split runs on marginal less amps than my 2-Ton General Window, but the Window one is much better with its duty and trip-off cycles- and much more reliable and sturdy + 2-Ton Window is kindda bad-@$$.

it is due to losses in pipes in split ac. no matter how good insulation, there is always losses and when ur outdoor and indoor units are far away, these losses increase. that problem is not there in window ac, they have everything properly insulated inside and there is no 10 meter pipe going from the indoor to outdoor unit which would lower efficiency.

but the problem with window ac is that it cannot be fitted every where. otherwise window ac design seems more sensible and efficient.

... and their compressors have to work harder to push a lot of gas around, that overloads them and drops the efficiency.

Trouble is that we generally compare two decade old window units with modern split systems and agree to establish that split system is more energy efficient; quite the contrary: newer windows run quite cheaper than their split rivals. Even some old well put window units run on lesser amps than some brand new Chinese splits.
