Dress in layers and take some warm cloths (read winter jacket not some sleeveless sweater). It will be cold at night and early morning but as you start to walk/hike, you will sweat. So do dress in layers. Nights can be particularly cold (depending on weather) plus the fact that you will be very tired after the hike. Strongly recommend leggings/warmers. Ideally, your jacket should also be a wind cheat.
Hiking is a bit tough for those not in a physically good shape so do have plenty of time for it. I am referring to the hike from tatoo/jhail to fairy meadows.
Sunburn is an issue so i would recommend sunscreen as a must and hats with good shade (like cowboy hats or cricket hats).
Good comfortable hiking shoes( that arent too slippery). It is a long and tiring hike so shoes must be comfortable.
Since you're a doctor, I need not remind you of altitude sickness. Usually doesnt get serious but the occasional headaches arent ruled out.
Do keep some chocolate/energy bars handy and drink plenty of fluid. Sometimes, you dont feel like eating and drinking but very important you do both.
You havent told us how old the children are for any specific recommendations.
I also recommend you spend a day at Fairy meadows and hike up (relatively easy) to beyal camp. You will get more magnificent views from there. ( keep in mind however that its gonna be colder there). If you have even more time, the guys amongst you (or even determined ladies if they arent too tired) could go up to base camp.
Even if you dont go to base camp, atleast do go to Beyal. Its worth it.
Best of luck with your trip. Its truly a memorable trip.
