yar there are many dams in the vacinity of islamabad for instance i have fished in the following locations

1- Rawal Lake
2-Simli Lake
3-Tarbela lake
4-Mangla lake
5-Qibla Bandi Dam
6-Shahpur Dam
7-Mirwal Dam
8-Kahl Dam
9-putri Dam
10-Indus river at jand basal area

When I visited Kalaam 2 years ago in December... Trek to Mahudand lake was closed due to heavy snow fall Nice pics anyway.

Last year when I went to Swat, I couldn't go to Kalam (via Bahrian) as the roads were closed (this was in May 2012).

I'll be travelling in the end of August/start of September and have a few questions. I'll have around 15 days for my vacation.

• apart from Kalam, which areas should I visit (have already seen Kalam in my childhood so want to explore some new places)
• Bahrain - is it a good place to stay for a day or two? any idea about good hotels and rates? what would be the temperature in around end august/start September

And most importantly, I'm planning to go with my family, my baby girl would be around 7-8 months young by the time. So, which areas would be relatively safer (meaning not cold)

Traveling with family Mahodand Lake is Safe place and a family point....
Near kalam 2 valleys
1-Ushu (Mohudand lake,Matlantan Waterfall)
2-utror(till village)
U can explore these two valleys

In Bahrain one day is Enough....Temp is Normal

1. Daewoo and many others.
2. Mingora-Kalam PT should be available uptill around mid day.. so that you can reach kalam in daylight.
3. Yes some tent villages. But it will cost you much more.. as you have to keep the jeep also overnight.

I want to visit kalam by 23rd August 2013. Is this time ok? Also is it tourist season? Can I get hotels at good rates? I want to take my new civic, can it travel on that road? Sir ge awsome trip indeed. I along with one friend are planing to visit kalam from lahore aroung 11th Dec. We are planning to take daewoo from lahore. But i have heard it do not goes all the way to swat. Can any one please how are we going to go forward from the point where daewoo will drop us. We dont want to rent our jeep as its too expensive. Is there any local route transport availabel from that point till kalam? Also I have been to naran kagan. Is kalam equally good as those places are. And last we want to see some snow. Do you think there will be snow in kalam by now?

And also our main focus is snow. We have four days for this tour. If any brother wants to share any other location then i will be greatful. I thought of going to Naran first, but i have heard that Naran is toally closed now and all hotels are also closed. Some one suggested Ayubbia-muree but that place is only for families. We want to enjoy some tracking and snow. So we decided to give kalam/swat a try this year. But any one from pakwheels group can sugges any other place then i will be greatful. We are two guys lookinto for some snow and track adventure. Thanks agains

You can get seats in the public transport hi-ace that runs from Mingora bus adda till Kalam, and it is very near from Daewoo termination point. But make sure that you reach Mingora in first half of the day to catch the hi-ace. And i think that there would not be any snow in Kalam in the current season. Normally Kalam receives snow very late as compared to other northern areas. So there might not be snow by the time when you would reach there. You can confirm the status of snowfall by dilaing in any hotel of Kalam.

If you want to compare Naran with Kalam, I feel Kalam to be much more greener in the summer season (can't say about the current situation). It has more waterfalls, springs, trees and valleys while Naran has a rough and tough mountainous sort of terrain.

If you want to enjoy snow, I would suggest go towards Shogran. Its normally accessible even in the snow season. And if you are into hardcore trekking, there are many groups that are offering winter survival group treking tours for Saiful Muluk, Makra Top, Mussa ka Musallah. You can join one of those group to experience the true soul of winter season.
