No way the Hunza Mir had a Cord. They only got into cars like Chevy's and later on some mundane Merc's.
There is a Packard in the inventory of the Mehtar of Chitral and still parked in the garage. I am told it is iimmaculate condition and not used on the road.
have some pictures of my Granddad and the Wali of Swat with the Swat state Packard and Buick in the car porch.

The biggest loss was the Bahawalpur 500 K. What a car and it was sold with 5000 miles on it.

The Cord 810 'myth' comes from a 1950s Dr.Jason Love adventure/spy book. I dont remember the name of that particular one (of a series ala James Bond), but the Cord figured in there towards the end of the last chapter in a rescue/chase sequence.
Wonder if the writer mixed a bit of fact with fiction (Packard at Swat?)
Some Jason Love books were made into films starring David Niven.

Thanks guys. must come along IF you people are going to make this road trip. Do plan to take a camera crew along, make a good documentary and sell to some TV channel, what say you? I mean when was the last time ANYONE did a group trip? Maybe the 4wheel drive club, but I wonder if they realised the entertainment potential of filming it all....
take in all the stops, Sehwan, the desert forts, Umerkot, the Bahawalpur palace, to name just a few. or am I being toooo optimistic? Isnt the BBC about to show a 'round the world' trip this month called Equator? Maybe a smaller version of that?

haha...im set..i AM SET for this one!!!! i have my camera....ill bring that along..ill just need someplace to charge it...lol...very very good scene it looks to me sir...if u do plan on coming romano cha..will u come to karachi first and then cruise back home with us? i think that wont be so bad...ull get to spend some time with ur "nephews" LOL!

Pure fiction I think. There was even a nursery rhyme in which the Wali of Swat was the main character!!

I did tell Mohsin about the 1928 Speed Six Bentley which was taken from Nowshera by Gen Shahid Hamid's son ( do ask him about it ) sadly the Bentley was also exported. I just missed getting that car by two days.

Hasan Hamid (if I have the name right) lives in the street behind my house. I dont know him, nor do I think I ever will, as he is a bit of a recluse. I remember trying to invite him to via mailed letters (twice) to bring his car to the Dawn car show but never got a response..
I remember reading about the Bentley driven/exported in an article for a local newspaper some years ago. Was that the same car?
I think we should brainstorm on how to get CBR to change import rules on cars over 30 years old. What say you?

Is it possible to have a copy of the article. Please do try if you can look it up. I am talking of the summer of 1971, he did bring the car ( Speed Six) to our place in Pindi and believe me somewhere in my disorganised albums I have three or four pictures of a Bentley R type and a Speed Six together.
Would love to lobby for lifting the ban on older cars but you must have read that the cabinet voted to not allow the import of Classic over 40 year old cars and it was the only item not approved in the Import policy announced this July.

frankly I do not think I will be able to find the article as Dawn newspapers are not archived on the Net yet. I cant even remember the name of the writer, may have been Khaled Hasan or Mustansar Tarar (Alzheimers, sorry!)
Will keep a look out tho, one never knows...

@Romano: The book you're referring to is called Frozen Assets. I've read it and its quite interesting if not over the top.

As far as the Cord is concerned, Mohsin if you recall, Jawed Ansari mentioned seeing this car up in Hunza about 20 years ago at one of our meetings at DD. He said the car was bought by the Nawab back when it was new and transported upto Hunza but never used. Where it is now is anyones guess. Anyone adventurous enough to go and try to find out?

there is a W100 600 pullman in Pakistan rotting.... NICE, its like having a faberge egg and keeping it stashed in garbage.
