Volkswagen’s Chinese line up is certainly a strange one, with varying generations of cars sold side by side yet they still manage to sell well despite the overlap.
Whilst the Passat B5 (and 5.5) may have died in overseas markets by 2005, sales continued in China with various facial updates for several years, which have culminated in China having both the Passat Mk6 (which is marketed as the Magotan, and built by FAW) and their own totally new Passat which is sold by SAIC-VW. To confuse matters more, the Passat R36 is also sold in China, via the VW import dealership networks alongside the Toureg, Scirocco, and Multivan.
VW’s Chinese partner First Automobile Works (FAW) have started to produce the VW Passat CC into production in China from April 2010, called as Magotan CC. The Magotan CC's waistline has been lifted up a lot. Specially designed, Magotan CC is largely formed with high-temp and intense-heat shaped steel plates and welded with the laser welding technology.
Magotan CC is also the first B-class vehicle, which is equipped with panoramic sunroof, frame-less doors, adaptive cruise control system and lane keeping system, bringing the driver a more humane operating experience and better security.
Moreover, the car uses a power portfolio of the TSI engine (Turbocharged Stratified Injection) and the DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox), and reduces the fuel consumption of at least 15% and carbon emissions of at least 20% compared with the conventional power-train system.
An Tiecheng, General Manager of FAW-VW, said CC's official production has not only expanded the joint venture's product line, but also more importantly has further proved the company's mature project management capability and its rapid control capabilities of the production capacity of multi-brand products.
Magotan CC is available in 2.0l TSI Straight 4, and 3.6l FSI V6 engine options with price ranging from 393900rmb to 536800rmb (48.7 lac PKR to 66.4 lac PKR)
