Its official. Ferrari have jumped 90 figures in their naming policy. Details of the Enzo successor, the Ferrari F150, were released today. Don?t worry though, it doesn?t share any parts with the popular Ford pickup series!
Ferrari?s official magazine recently ran an article featuring photos and details of the highly anticipated hypercar. It gets a developed 6.3-litre V12 engine transplanted from the new F12 and aided by an F1-style KERS hybrid system. This makes for a figure over 800bhp from the V12 along with 120bhp from the KERS system, a total of around 920bhp. We?re told that the 0-100km/h sprint time will be a Bugatti-beating sub-2.5 seconds.
The HY-KERS system reduces the 200km/h sprint by 10% and increases fuel efficiency by an impressive 40%. Whats more, the electric motor, battery pack and all the associated ancillaries have a weight-to-power ratio of one, meaning that the 120bhp they produce translates to a weight gain of 120kg.
We?ve already been introduced to the carbon fibre monocoque chassis, built in the Ferrari F1 team?s composites department. It is said to be 20 percent lighter and but 27 percent stiffer than the Enzo?s chassis. A nomex honeycomb structure has been used which is sandwiched between two layers of high grade carbon fiber. Ferrari fitted a Kevlar protective plate on to the underside of the body, which protects components placed below the monocoque.
The styling of the Ferrari F150, we are told, is still inspired by Formula 1. Its though that the bodywork aerodynamic efficiency is greatly improved over the previous generation Enzo. We?ve seen two teasers so far, along with an array of different test mules. Ferrari chose a set of quad exhausts, with two pipes below each single circular rear light.
Expect to see the Ferrari F150 at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2013. Only 400 F150s are expected, but all have already been sold, at around €1 million each.
