Recently got the sound setup upgraded on a friends LC80.
First up, the parts for sale
1) Front door (L/R) storage trays
2) Rear doors (L/R) 4" speaker plastic housings
All 4 items are in good condition and were removed due to the mods being done for the upgraded sound setup.
The jeep initially came only with 4" speakers under the dash, 4" speakers in the rear doors and a small sub right behind the 3rd row seat. The sub was long gone Kapput. One of the front dash speakers was dead and so were the two rear speakers
Keeping the 100k budget in mind and his desire to have speakers in the 3rd row too, here's how the upgrade went
1) Crappy 7" android panel was replaced with a older 7" Pioneer P4450bt headunit. It might be a unit from 2014 but it will still kick ass in the sound department and has all the features we needed for the install
2) Toyota gave factory 5.25" speakers in the LC80 which were mounted in a weird location where half the speaker was covered by the dash and the speaker design itself is so weird that a normal speaker wont fit due to the window channel running right behind it where the depth is less than 2". We removed the lower storage trays, put an extra piece of bracing for the lower part of the door (whoever worked on the SUV had removed the water barrier shields resulting in water damage to the lower parts of the wooden door cards) and reupholstered it. A pair of 6.5" Recoil RLX65 coaxials were installed with the provided metal bracing onto the door cards. Parts around the speaker were then treated to some sound deadening material
3) The rear doors got some Alpine STE-G120c 2-way coaxials. Made new spacer rings since the oversized magnet would not fir the original plastic housing. This also meant we could use some 6.5" new speaker covers over the speakers to match those in the front. The metal sheet around the speakers were then treated to some sound deadening material
4) 3rd row passengers got similar 4" Alpine coaxials. We had to make new locations in the panels and moved the factory rear door speaker grill covers over the Alpine coaxials to make it look completely factory finish. The plastic housing around the speakers were treated with some sound deadening material to stop the plastic from vibrating
5) To save up space, we installed a JBL Stage 810" 200W subwoofer in a custom downfiring sealed box made from 0.75 mdf with velcro feet filled with polyfill. This meant that the trunk space can still be fully utalized even with the 3rd row seats functional. The sub has enough punch to never make you wanting more of those low notes
6) Plan was to go with a 4 channel amp which would run the front coaxials and the sub while the 2nd and 3rd row 4" drivers would be powered directly from the headunit (these don't need much power to run and just had to fulfill the surround effect for the midrange and highs). The pioneer GM-A4704 was initially decided upon but despite its small size, it proved too big for the low old school front seats of the lc80 which raised the issue of the seat jamming whenever you tried to slide front/back. So we went ahead with the Alpine MRV-F300, a small digital amp that produced even more power and fits in your hand (Literally)
Running full spec OFC 8 gauge wiring. Ferrules + heatshrinks on the wires themselves. 100A fuse on the main power wire. OFC 3m rca cables. 20Awg shielded ofc speaker cables and 16Awg ofc subwoofer cable. Also got new weather barrier shields made for all the doors to prevent further damager to the door cards too
The full setup along with all parts, equipment and labor cost less than 110k. And yet the sound is phenomenal. This is in no way a premium setup but it sure hell is a setup you can enjoy with great highs, midbass and low notes over the sound of the 1hd-te and the huge knobbly Toyo 285 R16 tires
