this question goes out to anyone who thinks they have the answer..................

I noticed something the other day with my coaxials........in the rear......the tweets were not working in the coaxials.....
when i took them inside the shop and tested them they seemed to be working......

since I am running passive from the p99 how could any frequency I have set affect it? Meaning If I change the Hpf on the low channel(which the rears are connected to) will they start up again?

I noticed this when I was testing like a couple of weeks ago........

thanks moon....the p99 is an outstanding piece of technology.........If you are thinking of getting it I would suggest go for it the improvements noticeable will be immediate.........the fever is spreading;)

You have band passed your coaxials. P99 is 4 way active, Low, mid, high and sub. On which output you are running your rear fill.

If one runs a passive setup using the p99 you are supposed to leave the high channels output free from the p99.....the rear fill are running on the low channel from the p99........the sub of course on the sub channel............

Check the lpf filter on that channel, the low pass filter is may be engaged thats why highs are not going through to the speakers. You can set the lpf around 12k or your preference according to the pleasing factor of your ears.

Check if you have connected properly.
Fornt components should be connceted to mid out RCAs of HU. Since the HU is active ( i did not play passive with this deck so i dont know) you will HPF and LPF for mid pre out. Set HPF to 80 Hz and LPF to 20k Hz ( your passive network of components would be between this range).
Rear Coaxials should be connected to Low out RCAs of HU. Then set HPF 80 Hz and LPF 20k Hz ( you can also check how it feels lowering LPF to 10k Hz or bit higher so that the stage stays more in the front but it all depends on the drivers ability)

Set HPF on subwoofer accordingly how low it will go and LPF to 80 Hz or overlap it around 100 Hz.

thanks for the help brother but I have to post my experience with trying to do this......well as you know ideally the p99 is supposed to be best used in an active setup....however mashallah se the boost it has given my system is immeasurable... even though it is passive....

When connecting the system it was done as this............

High frequency output = unused

Subwoofer output = on

Low output = on

So the problem I am facing is that when I tried to alter the frequency as roms mentioned above it changes the frequencies for all of the speakers front components and back........coaxials............hence the sound when LPF is set to 12k becomes too piercing for my tastes.....i like laidback.............it sounds amazing the way it is but I wish there was someway on some tracks if I could just adjust the back..............

if changing this freq changes freq for front and rear it might mean that both front and rear are connected via the same channel. also since you are not using high output which in passive mode usually is used for front speakers

Salaam brother. The P99 manual when installing shows you two options for both passive and active setups.....In the active configuration the high out put is used for the tweeters.....Since I am using passive I will tell you what I did after talking to another person who was using it this way in a passive setup.....

P99= High range output
Mid range Output
Low range output
sub range output

According to the manual the high range is not used in a passive setup.
Mid range I connected to the front stage comprising components.
Low range to the rear coaxials.
And of course sub output to the sub.

Now I fiddled with the Low Lpfs and it is confirmed the rear stage tweets in the coaxials did start firing but the sound from the front stage changed also which should not have happened as the front stage is connected to the mid range output and not to the low range output which the coaxials are connected to.

Unless the p99 in a passive setup reads the front and back stage as one general speaker enclosure and the filters of the lows (lpf and hpf) and the filters of the mid (lpf and hpf) is affected by tweaking to the one or the other.

Arsalan bhai am abit hazy about standard network mode and active network...mode...how did you change from either mode with your 8650...

WHen I tune this setup as you know I am running it from the 99 I go through 3 networks for each filter for tuning it but as regards standard and active how does one go about doing this........:S

Salaam bhai......well I checked and this one does not have that switch........I checked the networks and my tuning frequencies again and there is no place where I could locate the reason.....

In addition in the startup whilst it is off if you keep your finger pressed on the right knob it takes you to many different features.

When I was installing my setup and different speakers I used to check just the sound from the front by turning of the low range output so that I could just hear the front stage. When I used to do that sure enough the back speakers used to turn off.
So the mystery is during tuning why does the front as well as the back stage get affected when I am just tuning the lows LPF and HPF to which only the rear coaxials are connected?
