Reference to the above pictures:
Hello All…..its been a while…..have been following fellow members impressive setups and efforts and am quite pleased with the passion of sound ……bodes well for the future...I wish new members and the current ones the best of luck with their projects……
Right so in response to some pms I have received in relation to the DEX P99rs ( pictures of which I have posted above) and the impact it has had on my system…….
I would like to post some collective responses which would go someway to answer some of the queries….and give some insight on my setup…..
Primarily I think two of the biggest gains are flexibility and balance:
-
Flexibility: The options it provides you are truly mind boggling. You can isolate each speaker each channel and fine tune it to your hearts content. You can play each speaker in normal or reverse mode. Adjust the slopes on the fly, Left/right equalizer with 31 bands really lets you learn and observe the slight nuances of sound. Phase delays, extreme crossovers (if you run active with slopes you have a lot of flexibility)……Time alignment, Auto EQ ….I could go on and on but you get the picture…..I mean for a novice like me it is a fantasy world of experimentation……For a true guru such as say Dr Shaggy the possibilities would be endless in their hands…..
-
Balance: I have spent the last few months apart from my own work just occasionally fiddling around and tuning my system with the 99. And a couple of months ago finally settled on a configuration that makes all the music I play sound the way I like it. I don’t have to constantly flip the switch and make adjustments when driving…..I have got it the way I like it, however even now I do not believe I have truly explored it as it has so much to offer. I do not auto tune. I tried it with this but did not like what it did. I preferred my own adjustments as well as my own slopes and cutoff points. Some speakers I prefer inversing as well. But the TA works a treat. You sit anywhere in the car and you feel that the music is enveloping you all around....
Good points: Apart from the specs of it (available on internet) what is quite nice about it is the ultra clean signal it puts out. This means that as loud as I want to play it there is no resultant ear fatigue or distortion. This is important to me as at times when I am in the mood …..well you get the picture. I think the built in 4 channel DSP helps out here as the clean signal has significantly tightened up my system making the bass more fuller yet clearer and the treble clear yet not harsh. The ability to make the radio sound damn near <st1:stockticker>USB</st1:stockticker> quality and to make <st1:stockticker>USB</st1:stockticker> sound near CD quality.
Bad points: Some cold crossover points and slopes…tacky auto tune….cant think of much else……
Things to look for in the next DEX P99RS: Well my wish list would include Bluetooth capability and parametric tuning as well…….Little things as I do not see how they can improve this masterpiece.
Those who know me know what sound I like. To those that don’t well I like laid back- warm sound yet clear. But not ear fatiguing. That is why some brands aren’t for me. You all know which ones I am talking about. My system is quite basic and a starting point .
I have quite a few plans for the future just have to find the time and a reason to change the sound I am currently getting. Have some Morel Elates lying around that I will try sometime, as well as going Bluetooth enabled. My major plans I will keep you all posted on later…..
So in answer to the PMs to the people asking me whether or not they should get the 99 I will say go for it eyes closed. You will not regret it. I do believe it is the next best thing after the Alpine F1 transport. It will be like the gift that keeps on giving. Just be prepared to spend some time to understand it…
I will at some stage when I get time post some videos if I can, if not you are more than welcome to take a spin in my car and hear for yourself....
Cheers !
