First bike. Should I buy new or used?

I don't know how to ride a bide, I will have to learn first. I want your suggestion whether I should buy a used bike or new one as my 1st bike? I don't want to trash a new bike!

Also, any suggestions are welcome:
Budget: 1 lac 25.. can stretch if its very good
Riding: within city. Irregular. Nothing long distance.
Safety and reliability are a priority for me.

Bro, I would sincerely advise to first buy a used bike, preferably 70 cc, and do not spend may be more than 30-40,000 PKR on it. You may even look for Chinese bikes.

First learn how to drive bike, spend at least 3-4 months on it and learn bike driving, road sense, etc.

When you have sufficient expertise, then switch to any bike of your choice (preferably brand new one); any budget and any cc.

I bought a used 1987 model Honda 125 as my first bike. Easy to ride, reasonably comfortable and cheap to maintain. I would suggest a used bike in a good condition preferably from someone you know. Good luck! ：)

Get a used 2010 or above Honda cd 70. Learn to ride on it as even if you drop the bike it's dirt cheap to repair. Maintenance is easy and it's not particularly unreliable. Spend at least 6 months on it then if you want to sell it and get something new. Since you will travel shirt distances within City it will be economical as well.

Also remember to get a good helmet with a rating of some sort not the cheap 800 rupees helmet and a good pair of riding gloves. Always ride safe and stay alert and off your phone while riding.

I strongly support the good helmet and driving gloves point suggested by @asharab.butt. When I bought my bike back in 1997, I bought the best quality helmet (Korean) for Rs 1700 (very expensive back then) and leather driving gloves which I wore in summer and winter.
