First SUV in 6-7 Million

Hello Gurus,
So decided to take advice/suggestion from pakwheelers regarding a situation I am facing.

The budget is 7 million MAX.
Need a 7 seater SUV.
Itll be my first ever 4×4.

I have done a little research and from the insane car prices these days I have

1) Fortuner 2015-16
2) Prado 2005-6
3) Land Cruiser 100 series

My mind says Foruner because its a new car
But the lack of comfort is what shifts me towards Prado. Somehow I really like the TRD variant in Fortner

But Prado will be old and will come with its own problems.

Most of the LC 100 Ive seen are diesel 4.2, I would pesonally avoid a diesel vehicle due to maintainance issues.

Fortuner is the way to go if u want minimum maintenance.but comfort and drive compared to jdm will obviously be poor but u have to compromise on it.

Get Fortuner TRD version. The one that came with climate control

It will be a newer car and will be trouble free for some years unlike Land Cruiser and Prado

I have driven the fortuner a few times in city.Comfort was ok. Dont really know how it behaves on highway.

Prado 120 is a brilliant comfortable SUV, but a 15 years old model is not recommended at 7 million price tag. If you can find a well maintained one in 5 to 6 million, then you can consider, as spare cash can be used for maintainence if any problem arises. Resale is no problem for Prado. Sold mine to dealer at almost market price in 1 day.

Keep in mind that almost all SUVs that old have their meters reversed. So don't bother about milage on odometer. Take a test drive and feel the condition of engine. Acceleration should be smooth. You will know the difference when you test drive a few vehicles.

In my personal opinion, 2015 Fortuner is a tin dabba infront of Prado 120. Choice is yours: A proper luxury SUV, but old - or a newer hilux with cabin on back.

If you do decide on Prado, try finding TZ 3.4, much much better than TX 2.7

Get a 4.0 Prado that comes with 1GR engine. That’s the best variant with most fuel efficiency.

Looking at the insane prices, your best bet is 1998-2002 VX Limited 100 series, if comfort is what you want. Otherwise if time is an issue, I would definitely second you on the fortuner, buy it with maintenance history. As for wanting to avoid diesel, that has less regular maintenance than a petrol vehicle, just fyi

Youre right about 120 but the thing is, the kind of car I want is not less than 65. Beaten up vehicles (even in pictures) are for 55-60
Somehow I dont feel like spending a hefty amount on such an old car. The comfort is matchless albeit.

Also very few clean 120 Prados in Market.

My mother has back issues and often complains of back aches on longer journey. That is my fear wih Fortuner.

Dont really care about 2.7 as far as it does the job done. If its a Hilux itll be super reliable.

Beaten up diesels in Pakistan are a nigtmare after seeing a few relatives and friends. Don wan to experience that after spending so much.

Land cruiser is love though. Did the 100 series come in petrol versions too? Or was it the cygnus?

Stay away from old fortuner if this is an issue. Otherwise purchase molty care lumbar and pelvis support for rear passengers, but it will still hurt a lot for a patient with back issues. Experienced it already in new revo 2.8 so I can imagine how bad the previous fortuner rear seating are.

In that case buy a Fortuner, 7 million rs for 15 years old vehicle is not justified. You can install some kind of cushioning for the seats, as the rear seats on Fortuner are extremely uncomfortable.

Btw, why not buy a brand new crossover like Sportage in much lower price? You plan on going off-road?

You probably missed one which is Toyota SURF which I believe is a great SUV within your budget. Even you can find an old car and built it according to your taste.

Go for either Prado or LandCruiser as in my opinion Fortuner is no way near to the comfort and reliability level of either two.

In today's market, I always say, buy the owner not the car, find a technical fellow with a well maintained ride, and get it from him. It did come in petrol, majority in the market are petrol, those are a special kind of pain to endure. If I were you, I would prefer a VX Limited, let it be a Prado or a land cruiser, at least it will have local part support.
As for a Prado, I recall a white VX Limited for sale in isb, lovely looking vehicle, multan number, worth a look.

Also, if comfort is what you want, you can easily find a well maintained gen 4 pajero in your price. Not to certain about the body parts availability but mechanical and electrical support is available for the dewan ones. Definitely worth a look.

Forget buying suv, people with backache struggle to climb and get off the vehicle. Stick to sedans

@ali454 Dear, fellow member @qwertypoiu has rightly pointed out.

If your mother is having backache issues, then SUV may be sincerely avoided as she will have difficulty in climbing up and sitting inside it, and then coming out, due to high ground clearance issues.

You may look for a Sedan; Accord, Crown, or even Mercedes Benz E Class, even S Class, any variant which matches your taste, budget and requirements. Rest, yours choice and good luck. All the best!

YES. Kia Grand Carnival also seems a very very reasonable and fine option.

Fortuner is nowhere near Prado.

The sigma diesel is a decent offroader though, but yes, no comfort in a Fortuner.

If you want 4x4, get a clean Prado and enjoy the best ride possible. It will not give maintenance trouble, will be just like a new Fortuner if you've examined it to be clean.

For some reason brother @faakhir19 really loves Fortuner which is a poor SUV by any measure compared to greats like Prado..

Grand carnival and other VANS are what they are... passenger vans.

They are not 4x4 and not meant for adventure rides n off-roading.

So if you only want city traffic vans, then carnival is a great option too.

Spending 6-7 million on an SUV that won't be comfortable (Fortuner) makes no sense at all. My sincere advice is to get a 120 Prado 3.4l.
