Fish farming in pakistan

Asslam-o-Alaikum:

I am doing BS marine sciences and its all related with water, aqua culture, marine organisms and coastal zones. After completion of my degree iam thinking to do masters in FISHERY.

I dont have any practical knowledge. I know that there is some fresh water fish farming in pakistan but no marine water fish farming.

Can you people join any of your experience regarding FISH or FISH FARMING in pakistan

sorry to say....

u chose field with less opportunities...none in baluchistan...along the indus river u may find some fish farms...and near coastal areas..

It pays ALOT..... Sadly, people who are into this business are not educated hence the yield is not that great. Probably, you can work on educated basis and improve the practises being followed

Who says it has less opportunities...
It has a huge potential coz the area has never been explored....Baluchistan coastal areas are one of the best for such experiments.
BUT this is gonna require alot of effort because there isn't much infrastructure available for this.
However,Freshwater farming is been done from sindh till gilgit..and it's quite successful as well.I would suggest u to look into trout farming in Baluchistan.U can try carp too but only on those waters which do not freeze in winters

Buddy you may say that less job opportunities but this is a practical field. There is no exploration going on in our Exclusive Economic Zone. And we are over harvesting our fish population. In 1985 we have almost 35000 MT of fish in our EEZ now its only around 18000 MT. So we have to start aqua culture in pakistan to increase the stock size of fishery. Plus pakistan is consuming almost 2.5kg Fish per person in other countries its about 16KG per person.

Talking about BALOCHISTAN it has coastline of about 630KM and we can found variety of fish there

True you said it rightly. The people who are in this business have no education about breeding and other important aspects of fish farming. Its just because there is no infra structure and university allowing bachelorate in fishery or marine sciences apart from one LUAWMS.

Yes sir.. It has huge potential but sadly there is no infra structure, Especially if you look at marine water fish (Saline) its not even popular in pakistan, because pakistani's want taste rather than nutritional value thats why you can find fresh water fish farming in pakistan but none of marine water. Even the seeds of marine fish is not available in pakistan.

About Balochistan Yes it has potential. All the countries in the world has EEZ of about 300NM .. But pakistan has 350NM EEZ and its going to be increased soon

Iam making this because i wana know the opinion of members and also i have only bookish knowledge. You people can share your views and experiences about fish farming in pakistan..

Plus iam a bachelorate student .. Iam thinking a small scale experiment so that i might have idea about farming techniques and etc.

well, everyone loves fish..

it tastes good..so lack of demand is out of question...demand is high.

u probably know better..

but the big one with less kantay is very much popular...there are several famous fish restaurants like sardar machli etc...

u can setup small scale and supply to newly launched fish restaurants..
im sure its highly profitable...

Wht i recently found out is CAVIAR or Fish Roe (Eggs) especially of Iranian Beluga Fish which sell for as much as 25,000 $s per Kg ... So u shud try exploring that ...

My Uncle had 8 Fish ponds near THATA,SINDH..... After all the floding he lost every thing.And on top of it people steal his fish from the pond at night time.
