Fixing Coolant Leak

After fixing the radiator and installing the Thermostat valve (it was missing before), i start observing the coolant level going down in the expansion bottle from Max. to min. just after driving 50Km only.
Which mean is still leak in the system and need to find & fix it.

I took the car to Osama’s workshop (PW id Syncview) and our first culprit target was head gasket because ex-owner was running this car on water and without T-Valve.
But luckily head gasket was in good condition and there were no such signs.

So the next step was to give pressure to the system to find the leak. So here we go.

You should do it when the engine is cold.

There is pipe which connects radiator to the expansion bottle. You should remove this pipe first and connect the pipe for the pressure pump.

Then gently remove the radiator cap and replace it with another cap which doesn’t has the spring. Otherwise you cannot give pressure to the system.

This type of radiator cap need to use as in picture.

This is the manual pump which supplies the liquid pressure to the system since it already has water inside it which we pump into the system.

This manual pump can provide pressure upto 30psi to the system. But for regular cars to find leaks, any pressure from 10psi to 14psi is more than enough to find leaks.

Just push the pump and dial guage will start moving up.

In my case, no leak detected upto 10psi
At 12psi, no leak.

But eventually found two leaks at almost 14-15psi

First leak was found from the lower hose pipe clamp.
Though the clamp was original but it was seating at the edge of the pipe can hence causing a very very minor leak.

Other leaks was very crucial indeed.
The housing of Thermostate valve started dripping coolant.

You can only see the dripped coolant in this photo. But it was actually coming from the Housing of T-valve. Its like plastic body type part.

Actually the upper hose pipe is attached with this housing of T-Valve.

First disconnected the hose pipe and the plastic housing of T-Valve was easily accessible since its attached with 2 bolts of 10 or 12mm

And here is the main Culprit.

This was causing the leak.

Also noticed that someone (ex-onwer) used this Housing of T-Valve as Desi Material. It was not kabuli/original. Otherwise it never bends like it.

Also the traces of RTV are very clear.

The T-Valve Housing was sourced, replaced.
All hose pipe clamps were used the one which toyota use actually. Earlier it was screw clamp which was tighten with flat head screw driver.

Now after fixing, I used three bottles (1L each) of Guard’s Concentrated coolant and rest was filled with RO Water.

Drove the car like 100 km after that, and not a single drop of coolant is reduced so far.
Will keep it in observation for next few days btw.

Bought 3 bottles of guard’s concentrated coolant and used them.
Each cost like 820
Balance RO water was used to fill it upto brim.

This concentrated coolant contains 960ml of Ethylene Glycol per L.
and its anti rust, anti freeze too.

Zabardast. Love it when a problem is scientifically diagnosed and corrected. Dill khush kar dia.

Only change I would have done is to have mixed the coolant/RO water outside the car in a bucket. Usually the mixture is 50-50 and then poured the mixture into the car. In this way I would have ensured the concentration of the coolant to be 50-50.

Sir ideally it has to be done as you wrote.
However as its nearly impossible to drain 100% Coolant from the system, that’s why andazay say kaam chal jata hey.

This Premio has 1NZ which takes 6.5L coolant as per book.
That’s why I used 3 bottles of concentrated coolant so it will make like ~45-55 ratio which is fine.
