Although I agree with you about original restoration but the problem here is that most FJ40s came for the military, with military specs such as heavy duty differentials for pulling artillery pieces on relatively flat terrain. These vehicles have a problem in the mountains. Upgrade of the brakes is also very important, you don't want brake fade coming down a steep incline. Also, most came as soft tops so finding a good hardtop is difficult.

Some people are having 2400 efi engines or even less power.. R these competible with heavy differentials & huge body? It just feels under power or ?? Plus point they explain is the fuel efficiency but what about negitive impacts??

Diesel makes more sense in a day to day vehicle, this 3-4 km/l is not something practical

If you want to feel the real joy of an old school beast, get one wit diesel engine and if possible go for a turbo diesel engine and you will fell in love with it.

I used to read a statement earlier on this forum that a non-turbo diesel engine is half the engine, but I understood the statement only after getting my hands on 1KZTE, previous experience of 2H engine is way good, but this on is a beast, although I drive round 2k rpm but its superb al hamd o lillah.

You were using it on Fj ? KZ gets a little complicated because of its wiring.

I was previously having an1989 HJ60, with stock 2H, 3980cc, inline six cylinder diesel engine.

Now upgraded to 1999 surf with 1KZTE.

Sir 2H was based on H...These knockers are old and reliable...The next gen straight sixes are fine...especially when you plan to put them in a relatively light setup as compared to an eighty or a hundred...

In a 40 the weight to power of a NA straight six is good enough...and obviously you have less moving parts to go with it..
