Ford Explorer 4.0 V6 Engine Replacement

Hello Everyone,
I was looking for a winter project and found a 2004 Ford Explorer with a non-running engine and 256k kms. the mileage is a bit high, but the Body and interior is very nice and clean and the PO swore by the rest of the vehicle.
after a quick look up in a dark evening, i decided to take this project up.

On Sunday 14 December, i bought it and had it towed to my house. $800 for vehicle and $100 for tow.
Dis-assembly began soon after. I will let the pics do the talking.

New Replacement Engine with 95000 kms from a 2008 Ford Ranger. Cost $600.
the Engine long block is the same, the intake / exhaust manifolds and fuel injection is a little different and will swapped over.

they work now

nice job - garage looks like its freezing in there, make sure the aatometick gheyrbuxa works correct - if not then overhaul the valve body with the trans-go shift kit - the 5r55 is a bit of a delicate unit.

According to PO, tranny was fine.
i don't have long term plans for it unless i give it to my brother. Will think about it if it acts up.

Cooling system is in. Have to flush it first through.
Then bumper, grill, wheel well moldings left to do. sorry no pics. it was too cold.

sometimes these suffer from no drive when throttle is applied while it will creep in D at idle. If it does that - DO NOT try to rev it hard, such will burn up the torque converter, the problem with this is the cooler line thermostatic connection jamming up which causes the converter not to charge up - you can open up the valve body and flip the piston and thermostat to make it full flow like every other gearbox in the world,

The other bit is the applied solenoid valve (need to get correct name for you) - If that hangs you dont get any drive as the clutches dont apply due to loss of hydraulic pressure.

Engine is in, driving fine the last few days. No codes at all.
Just to have sort a wire for the remote starter. and the loose block heater connection on bumper.
I have put close to 200 kms on it yet. final pics to come. the weather is starting to get better as well.
