Ford Transit Van/Truck

I hope this isn't a REPOST!

Well, Ford Transit (1965-1984) vans and trucks are very common in Attok, Jehlem, AJK and some other areas.

And I amazed to see that they're working great in tough hilly areas(Y)
although they're decads old.

I have a few questions about it, if someone can answer:

1) How did they came in Pakistan? (personal import/company, like Dewan...etc)

2)Any Pakwheeler has, or ever had this kinda Pickup or Van?

3) How do the owner get spare parts for them?

Maybe they came in Ayub Khan's period like the Bedford trucks did.

Have you ever tried asking one of the owners on the road? Since you mentioned that they are [b]very common[b] in certain areas; why not stop and ask one of the actual owners?

I travelled a couple of times in the second van (second pic) when I wasn't allowed to drive car. Loved it.

most of these vehicles are being second and third hand driven so how could the owner or driver knows about the history of how these vehicles enter in Pakistan.

Transist as name says is used for passenger Transit inside peshawar n the drivers drive it horibly :S but they are the faster mean of transport

Most of these Ford transits came in 70's and 80's to Pakistan from the UK and that's why you see them in Jhelum and surrounding areas. Plane tickets were expensive and people used to drive these all the way to Pakistan and sell them here to make some profit. My uncles brought many which were sold in Jhelum area. We used to live in Quetta when my uncles used to come to Pakistan and enter Pakistan from Zaidan border of Iran.
I love them and have many childhood memories and I have the plan to buy one and restore to its original design. All these transits came without any seats or windows and all these additions were done here in Pakistan except some of them which were made for passengers. I hope this will help you understand why we have so many of them in some regions of Pakistan. Most of the people who live in the UK are from Jhelum and Mirpur region.

My friend's father from Jhelum after every two or three years break used to drive one home from UK and immediately sell those for profit. The money gained was invested on construction of house or marriage of daughter or son ! Beautiful memories ! Later the trend changed to TOYOTA Hiace but now it seemed to have stopped altogether !
May be security conditions are to blame for driving a vehicle through Iran and Balochistan!
