Ok, I read this somewhere but don’t remember where, that if a foreign national comes to Pak for work he can bring a car with him without paying any duty for as long as he is with that paki company. He will not be able to sell it but still can legally drive that car anywhere in pak is that true?

I have read the entire CBR document, but its not mentioned there, so any thoughts?

Dear you hear or read very much right. Any foreigner can bring his/her car & can drive here for three years without paying any custom. After three years he/she must have to register here or brought it back.

It applies to the foreigner executives of multinational companies and diplomats. If you have a non-pakistani passport and you get some sort of work in one of mama chacha's company, you won't get that benefit. (sorry just for explanation purpose, not for you).

Any other foreign citizen can bring car for three months after which either to take it back or pay duty to get it registered.

There is some provision about people investing money in pakistan. If i am not mistaken, it is US$1 million investment in pakistan will entitle you to get one duty free vehicle.

what is the foreignor (genuine european) has an employment contract with an international NGO. can you help with getting a duty exemption??

It could be done through CBR, I think I emailed you for this reply few days back.

i checked with cbr on this isssue and they said they will only grant a "carnet de passage" which is a temporary exemption of 3 months for the payment of duty. is meant for travellers passing throuigh the country and not intending to stay. the only long-term exemption of duty is for diplomats.

This three month time have a extension limit as well. I don't know where but I read somewhere that foreign nationals working in a pak firm can bring one car. I could be mixing up my memories. Best is to ask CBR directly.

If there is no other way, non-custom paid could be legalised by other means.
