The date of Indianapolis 500 is the same as the Monaco GP and that is May 28. But Indianapolis 500 has a unique race format so they started the practice sessions from the start of May, then they have another race on the Indianapolis infield almost similar to F1's Indianapolis GP track but without the oval part. After that they started the official practice sessions for Indianapolis 500, 2 weeks before the race including a near full week of practice before the qualifying starts which is also divided in 3 parts the first will decide the front row and Pole position after that they will the decide the top 20 and after that the remaining slots. Indianapolis 500 has 33 entrants so its a big grid. After the qualifying they again do more practice before the main race on Sunday 28.

Alonso would not be their for the IndyGP as he will be driving the McLaren's F1 car in Barcelona in the Spanish GP but after that he will be in Indianapolis from Monday 15 till Sunday 28.

IndyCar is providing free streaming of all the practices on their Youtube channel and also going to upload the full race after 24 to 48 hours after the race on the channel.

Well I don't know whether his IndyCar could complete the total miles of the Indy500 or not but since his announcement that he is going to compete in the Indy500, the team for which he is driving Andretti Autosport has a total of 8 retirements in the last 2 IndyCar races. They have a 4 car team in IndyCar and that means all 4 cars have retired in both races including the first race where every car suffers an engine blow and in the second race they all retired either by crashing out or mechanical problems. So may be just may be Alonso would not be able to finish the 500 while his replacement Button not only completes the Monaco GP but by sheer co-incidence could win and that would be the real irony.

Although I want Alonso to win the 500 so that he could seriously enjoys some relief after 3 hard years of trying to solve one problem or another.
