786 - Super Rock Crawling & Offroad Event FROM 4x4 Mean Machines Club Lahore! :)
8 am on the 3rd day of 2014, 12 highly customized vehicles and 28 people gathered at gulberg to set off on a journey being planned for weeks.
After a briefing, and a bunch of last minute arrangements, the convoy set off @ 10:00 to drive through the city of Lahore towards the GT Road. All vehicles were assigned a number, from 1 to 12, and it was strictly instructed that all drivers must maintain the sequence in the convoy.
The convoy hit the GT road and stopped at kala shah kaku to regroup. The convoy moved forward, except for one, Dr tahir's samurai was suffering from clutch trouble, so he turned back to get it sorted.
The convoy entered Gujranwala at noon and one more comrade was suffering from clutch trouble. So after a few phone calls, the clutch master cylinder's seals were replaced on Mr asif shafi's FJ and team Mean Machines hit the khyber restaurant for a sumptuous lunch.
From there on, the convoy moved without any hickups to Kharian, where the convoy stopped again to regroup. Dr tahir rejoined the convoy there and the full convoy set off towards Jalal pur Sharif.
Crossing the Rasul barrage at dusk, the convoy was reached the destination, Mr khurram shah's residence, at 7pm. Everyone parked their vehicles inside and the food dept got to work. A magnificent bonfire was set up, a bar b q grill turned on and everyone enjoyed a brilliant bar b q dinner.
Next morning, the convoy was all set to disembark on an off roading adventure. After refueling, the convoy was lead by Mr Khurram Shah into a dry river bed & mountains. This is where the real adventure started.
Boys, their toys and a whole lot of sand. This is where the play time started. While khurram took his samurai forward to look for a suitable route ahead, the rest of the gang couldn't resist the temptation. There were a bunch small ditches and hillocks in the middle and everyone decided to put their vehicles to the test. And fun was the name of the game here. While the mutt and FJ's conquered the ditches and hillocks, the pajero destroyed the flat bits and the samurai showed it's prowess.
From there the convoy was led by khurram to another river bed what was to be the starting point of the off road trail. The convoy of 10 cars gathered here and started towards the mountains. As we moved forward, the terrain started to get interesting. Steep cliffs on both sides and a mix of rock and sand in the middle. The convoy thundered ahaed.
As the convoy progressed, the terrain began to exploit the capabilities of the vehicles and the expertise of their drivers. The terrain kept becoming more challenging with every meter covered and team MM kept moving forward finding their way over and around the rocky obstacles that the terrain threw their way.
Every obstacle was conquered by the convoy as a team. The experienced off roaders helping the inexperienced ones, guiding them over and around the rocky obstacles. The terrain did get the better of some vehicles, but help and guidance was always at hand.
The convoy crept along the dry river bed for about 4 hours till it had covered 6kms. All vehicles had survived whatever nature had to throw at them except one. The cherokee had suffered a gearbox related issue and since it was getting close to sundown, the convoy decided to head back.
Everyone turned around and trekked back the route to the beginning of the trail. The cherokee was towed back. At the start of the trail, the Jeep was repaired and the convoy headed back to last night's stop. A daig of chicken karahi welcomed the convoy back, a bonfire was set up and everyone settled down to reminisce on the adventures of the day.
The next morning the convoy set off to yesterdays trail's starting point again. The plan was that while two vehicles will retrack their way on the trail to recover noman's samsung galaxy s4 that he dropped somewhere, the rest would wait by the river side. A wait of about 1 hour and the atmosphere became jubilant as the search party returned after a successful recovery.
The return journey began. The convoy moving as one, made its way over the Rasul barrage towards dinga more. On the way the convoy stopped to get the taste of some local delicacies, and also stopping at a historic monument that marked the battle between the Sikhs and the goras in 1849.
Moving forward the convoy hit the GT road and @ 2:30 in the afternoon, team MM stopped at the renowned mian jee ka hotel for a sumptuous lunch. And it was a regulation journey from there on. The convoy entered Lahore over the Ravi bridge at 6:30 and proceeded to the club house in gulberg, the starting point of the journey.
