Fuel consumption with wide tyres

slam.i wanna ask a very simple question that why the fuel consumption is increased when we install wide tyres...plz tell all the reasons...thanks

Wide tyres : More friction.
So to overcome more friction the engine has to overwork and thus it burns more fuel.

@959 : sir stock tyre size in 7thgen vti is 185 , if 195 are installed would it cause some difference in fuel consumption?

The logic that i came up with is simple, when u use bigger or smaller tires from the OEM specified tires, the meters readings differ, i.e smallers and bigger tires vary the distance covered hence different readings while same distance covered with different tires.

Which means different fuel average with different tires and readings

Where as actualy it remains the same. Only numbers change because the bigger tires travel more distance in less rotations while smaller tires cover less distance in more rotations

Makes sense but still we cannot completely ignore the more friction factor that occurs due to wider tyres.
If only someone re-calibrates his speedometer when shifting to a bigger tyre size then this confusion can be cleared out.

Nice info but here the question is about wider tyres not bigger dia tyres. :). For instance in 15" u can have 185, 195, 205 etc wide tyres hence the dia of the rim will remain same.
Regarding the question wider tyres has more rubber to interact with the ground hence car needs more power to move. Traction thing.

i have personal experience... initially I installed Nexen 185 size tyres in my alto VXR, the consumption was around 170-180 on long ruote.. later on I replaced them with FALCON 155 size tyres and difference was remarkable.. mileage increased by 25-30 Km on long route per cylinder

I also wana knw that which tire size is more better for Alto VXR.. I am currently using Normal Company Fitted tires and rims... Please Suggest tire size that cause not so much fuel consumption and also gives a better Road Grip...

personally i like 165/65R13 for optimum performance and 155/70R13 for economy and much better grip than stock tyres.
if want to stick stock rim size, go for 165/70R12.

Dear the answer is very simple.
sopouse if u wear a pair of heavy shoes and wants run fast, u will consumed more energy instead of light weight shoes.
therefore all cars manufacturors doesn't recommended alloy rims.

I am using 165/70/13 on my ALTO.. but it was not a good experience,, my new tyres have just cover 15000 KM and my car suspension like goda, kangi damaging.. also steering is hard.. Consumption much increases.. only good thing was road grip.. but overall its not a good Idea to install 13" rim, keep stock rim size and not too wider..
