Well, my observations goes more ahead that.
Do you know what is the most hot item of LM in Pak? I believe its synthoil high tech 5/40 and MOS2 10/40.
Now, lets take the example of 5/40.
It has ACEA approval rating of A3/B3 (means high performance and longer drain intervals).
But here is something that goes beyond the observation of a common person.
The most latest standards of A3/B3 are of 2008 (latest one they have A5/B5 too, but lets take example of A3/B3 only for sake of discussions). And if some oil meets these standards, then they mention it as A3-08/B3-08. Here -08 stands for year 2008.
Now if you look at LM?s high tech bottle, then it states A3-04/B3-04. I believe you got what I want to explain here.
This is 2014, but yet the LM?s 5/40 oil is meeting the old standards of year 2004. This is only because Pakistanis don?t have that much latest technology engines in cars who needs latest oils specs.
Lets take example of Molygen 5/50 also. Its absolutely new product and fully synthetic. But this is of ?SJ grade?. Means its good for 2001 and before vehicles. Technically this oil cannot be used where sm grade is required.
Bottom line, Pak. Caltex, pso, shell, may producing the oils of latest specs. But yet they cannot compete the German oils of having old standards.
A represents ratings for gasoline engine oils.
B represents ratings for diesel engine oils.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 represents their latest standards.
