Function of button on the gear lever Alto VXL AGS

What's the proper way to use the gear lever in automatic Alto and when do we need to press the button on the lever? Should we use brake every time we shift between N, R or D ? and also press the button? I have been using button and brake both to shift between N, R and D.

Btw all this info is mentioned in your owner handbook. That button is the lever lock, you need to press it to unlock and move it, however it allows movement without pressing in certain conditions like R-N, N-D, D-N

buttons only for going into neutral

the brake requirement is there though. you need to press brake to put car in drive. however if you are going at speed, you can switch between neutral and drive
